OMG! Fuel hose alert

So... I'm working on my firewall forward tasks, and I'm at the point where it's finally time to install the fuel hoses to the engine. So the first one is the short foot-long hose that goes from the firewall fuel outlet to the engine-driven fuel pump. So I grab the hose that's been sitting on my shel...

Re: New member

Since Constant Speed was mentioned, I might offer an alternate point of view. I've had more than a couple RV pilots tell me that if they were to do it again, they'd save the money and spend it on fuel instead. RV's are such great airplanes, they are a winner either way! Besides the high initial cost...

Re: Seats fold?

The Brompton bikes look like an excellent product. I've never seen one, but I have seen the Bike Friday products made here in Oregon, if you'd like to consider one made in America. They have been a frequent vendor displaying at various Vans fly-ins like Homecoming and so on. I know this thread isn't...

I, too, used the water-based JetFlex interior paint. I love it. It's thick, that's true, but it sprays just fine. I thinned it with just a bit of distilled water (about 10%) and turned up the air pressure on my sprayer and with a little experience, got it to work just fine. There's a list of things ...

It was really great seeing you in person for the first time at Oshkosh, CJ! My only regret is that I didn't make it out to the field to see your plane. Our door is still open to you, if you make it over to the left coast sometime. Come visit! :)

Mike, what a FANTASTIC write-up! You certainly had a most excellent adventure and a wonderful trip. Thanks for posting all the pictures! I really appreciate the time and effort that went into that. As you know, this was my very first trip to OSH, after dreaming about it for many years. I got a ride ...

At nearly the last minute, a friend offered me a seat in his brand new RV-7, so I'm coming to Osh for the first time! I've been dreaming about it for years. I'll look forward to seeing as many of you as possible while I'm there. We're leaving here Tues. morning, with a planned arrival about 6:30 PM,...

GREAT! :) I just checked on Vans site, it looks like Homecoming this year is August 14-16. The folks who live there at Independence are wonderful hosts, just go to Vans and click on the link and register. You're welcome to come here beforehand, or afterward, whatever suits your schedule. We'll defin...

Come to my house!

CJ, If you are coming to homecoming, I'm just a hop and a skip from there, especially in an RV! I live in SE Portland, just 25 min. from Vans, and a visit to the mother ship would be in order, especially if you've never been there before. We have extra rooms here and would welcome a visit! There's s...

Mike, YES! That's it. That page shows EXACTLY what I was looking for. And you have it all written up very nicely, as usual for you. THANK YOU! By the way, I found some stainless steel tubing for sale at ACS, here, if anyone else is looking at this: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/mepages/stain...

Cowling hinge pins - question for Mike

This is a question or two for Mike, but anyone else with some experience here, please feel free to jump in. Mike, I'd like to run the side hinge pins for the cowling through the firewall and insert/remove them from in the cabin, like you did. I just really like the nice clean look. I'm using a Vans ...

Yes, indeed, welcome, Tim! :) You're definitely not alone. I also started my training as a college student, and finished the ground school, with only an hour or two of instruction in the air. That was over 40 years ago. I still don't have my PPL, but I'm working on it once again. Meanwhile, I'm near...

Got it!

Thanks, Mike! I have some things to order from ACS, I'll add a can of this so I have it on hand. Meanwhile, Mel Asberry, the DAR and A & P over on the other site, confirmed that my Permatex will also work. So I went ahead and got it installed. Applied it very thin with my finger to both sides. Here ...

Oil Filter Adapter Gasket - question

Hey Guys, I'm finally installing the oil filter adapter on my engine. I got lucky. I found a nearly brand new one from a local guy for a very good price. It was on one of Van's new engines that he bought for his RV-8, and he replaced it with an angle adapter. So anyway, I'm going through the instruc...

Thank you, Bruce, for all the details! That's a lot of good information. I'm going to check with some of the locals about their experiences here in the Northwest, and consider all of it before making a decision. Like you say, I can always come back and add it on later, as you have done. Happy flying!
