Re: G3X install
I just ordered my G3X system as well. Going in an eight but still willing to trade insights. My panel: Single GDU 460 10" with GNX375, GNC255A, remote comm and audio panel. G5 as backup. Garmin A/P with GMC 507. And the other standard things that go along with all of the above. Should all arrive lat...

Re: RV Choice
All good advice above. I'll reiterate / add a couple of thoughts. Bruce hit the nail on the head. Pick a mission and stick to it. From what you've described it sounds like you want side-by-side seating, VFR, non-aerobatic airplane. This narrows the choice down to the RV-7, 9, 12, or 14. If you don't...

Elevator Alignment
After drilling the elevator horns, I have a slight mis-alignment. With the elevator horn drilled and bolted at both ends I clamped the right elevator at the counterweight. http://papalimabravo.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/img_9167.jpeg The result is a slightly high left counterweight arm. It only ...

I'm using automotive Delfleet Essential two part epoxy primer, and corresponding paint, for my interior. Some people use the jet flex or other aviation specific paints, but in my judgment they are more trouble than they are worth. I have yet to meet a builder who used rustoleum rattle can paint and ...

Show Planes Fastback Kit
I received my Show Planes Fastback kit today, and I must say I'm impressed with the company, the kit, and the instructions. Bryan has been responsive to all my questions, and the kit quality is top notch. I can't wait to get started! I have been considering a fastback kit since the beginning of my b...

Agree completely with Mike on AKZO. I've used it for all my priming (except the QB fuselage). Its bullet tough, relatively easy to work with, and dries very quickly. I sprayed my AKZO in a garage, outside, and in the hangar. It dries so quickly over spray is not an issue. Highly recommended. That sa...

Flying in Santiago, Chile!
In early January, I traveled to Santiago, Chile as part of a short term study abroad trip for my MBA program. When I travel, I try to meet new people wherever I can. RV builders and pilots are an added bonus! Knowing the trip was coming, I contacted Fernando Abasolo via VAF to see if he'd be interes...

John, Chad's post is right on the money, and sufficiently thorough that I can't add a lot. I will reiterate that you shouldn't worry about skills in choosing a kit. Pick the RV you want. When I started building my -8 I had virtually no knowledge or skills, nor did I have any tools. Fortunately, the ...

Of that, 15 have to be with a CFII, the other 25 can be with a friend who has an instrument ticket (Calling Peter Barrett - want some free beer in exchange for RV rides???). Does this sound correct? You've got it dead on. (40 actual or simulated, and 15 of those with CFII) The only additional point...
