this is something I had planned to do; let me know if I can help :)

btw, GRT has true AOA now, but I would have to send them my ahrs and have it upgraded to a three port, and I think it's going to be too expensive.

I'm going to try to go in the RV-6 I'm likely buying this week :D

Along with a friend of mine who's taking the Acrosport I've been helping him cover.

Life, distractions, and my interim project: Pitts S1-SS

Hey folks, I know I've been scarce around here. I've made progress on the RV, but naturally not as fast as I'd like! It currently looks about like this: http://www.prototechnical.com/~imcmahon/rv_072013.jpg Meanwhile, I spent a bunch of time building machines and making stuff. I built a CNC laser cu...

Oh, the RV project is still happening, just slowly :)

In other RV related news, some friends at my airport finished up a 6 and I've been flying that some, which is certainly motivating!

Now I'm working on landing lights. I've pretty much decided on LEDs. I'm using flashlight modder parts from dx.com. Right now I have these two SST P7 leds in reflectors. They're 900lumen apiece. These two together have about the same pattern as the wingtip lights on my cherokee, but they're consider...

I ended up getting the Aveo powerbursts and mounting them on the outside of the wingtip. I made a faired platform for them to mount to on the tip: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BP824wuCAAENdnQ.jpg https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BP82tIjCUAAd30S.jpg I was hoping that with the white position light on the ba...

honestly these days it's easier and cheaper to get 540s on the used market than it is 360s, in large part due to all those damn RV builders buying up all the 360s!

Plus, a set of jugs for a parallel valve 540 is ~$7k, whereas a set of jugs for a 200hp angle valve IO-360 is ~$9k.

Looking Good :) :) Get the Canopy done and then you should be ready to start on the engine & firewall forward. Be sure to install your shoulder harness cables before you rivet the aft skins on the fuselage. Also don't install the boot cowl before you get all your engine connections made. I would al...

Are the wings on for good? I would keep them off while you do all of the engine and final fuselage work. Much easier to work around the airframe without walking around them endlessly. No, they'll come back off. I'm doing wingtips/lights/antennas etc, fuel tank plumbing, flap rigging/flap rod cutout...

My primary injury was a shattered shoulder blade and four broken ribs. I still have some shoulder pain, and my right shoulder isn't nearly strong enough. The ribs don't bother me. I also had a blown knee from the accident that they completely overlooked, and that is still causing me significant prob...

At this point I'm leaning toward buying the cheap Aveos, the Powerburst set, which is 2 pc, 3 way kit that I can put on the outside of the wingtips and no tail light.

Aveo officially won't recommend it for anything but LSA/ultralight, but an RV is smaller than a lot of LSAs!

Light woes

I'm at a point now where I need to make some decisions on my lighting. I want LED position lights, and either LED or HID landing lights. I really wanted something like the creativair setup, but they seem to be long gone. Friends are urging me to just go buy a set of aveos, but they're SO FREAKIN EXP...
