Costs

Post by Spike »

Just spent some time reviewing the costs that I anticipate encountering to finish the plane. I am wondering where you guys are falling within this equation.

Also, out of curiousity, is this a cash baby or are you planning on doing some type of financing routine?

I plan to "pay as you go" until I get to the engine. Then I will get some
financing for the engine.

i've added my costs several times, with several variables, and i think i'll end up with about $60-65k in it when done. the big variable is the panel, but i plan to keep it simple day/night vfr to start.

i've paid cash for the tail and wings, and i hope to be able to pay for the fuse and finish with cash (we'll see), and finance the engine and avionics.

As an already-done airplane- builder, I have about $77K in my airplane and that is with a new engine, new WW 200RV CS prop, partial glass panel, gps and xponder. Not too bad, I guess, considering some have closer to $100k in their birds with the Garmin 430's and stuff.

I'm like most of the guys above.
I paid cash for the Tail & Wings (slow build) and hope to continue for the Fuse & Finish kits.
Might have to pull some equity out of the house for the panel & engine (and take advantage of the tax break...).

Well, I was hoping to keep it under $70,000 but, I dunno... I tend to get carried away.

So far it has all been out of pocket. Fortunately, it hasn't been all MY pocket! My customers have been bearing the brunt of it so far!

:drink:

One day soon I will have to pay for SOMETHING! Maybe when I get to the engine? Might need to take a note out then!

Hey Danno! Was that one of those snap together Quick Build Kits?

:o 70 - 90 k ??!! Where do you guys get that kind of money?

I put about $35k into my RV-4 +- a grand. But then my mission was light and simple day/night VFR-only bird. I bought the tail finished and the wings started from a guy who couldn't go on. Then I had to sell my Aeronca Champ to pay for the rest of the kits. THEN, I had to refinance my house to pay for the engine which at the time was $12k from Aerosport Power.

It was kind of slim for a few years but we've finally rounded the corner (I think). Now I don't have to pay annual bills AND my insurance is actually lower than it was with my Champ.

My money tree is called an electrician's license. When I need anything, the next job I bid on magically comes to that amount!

This post reminds me of when I use to jump out of planes for fun and not because they were on fire. We would sit around looking at things around the house thinking "hum I could probably sell that and get enough for about x number of jumps."

Whoever voted for > $110K, if you are putting that into something other than an RV10, then you are my hero
