0320 H2AD in RV 9.
Possible great deal on a 0320 H2AD. Wondering if it would work in a 9? 95 hours smoh and 1701 total time. About all I know right now. Any info greatly appreciated. Says it is ready to bolt on a plane? Seems to good to be true? It's in Palm Springs/ Twentynine Palms CA area.

Joe,
I saw that SMOKIN' deal on the VAF. Best of luck to you on closing the deal.
I don't have any experience with the H2AD, but I did run across Greg Dillon's site http://www.flyefii.com/customer_project ... dillon.htm who has a -9A and the H2AD.
Here is an excerpt on the H2AD from the 27 years RV-ator:

Looks like it is a totally usable engine in an RV, but there are a few things you should ask Van's about the engine mounts!

As I recall, it was a 150-160 hp Cessna engine.
A friend of mine successfully installed on his seven.
I seem to remember something about cam lobe corrosion potential.
(most Lycs have this, but for some reason this one stood out).
Good luck!

I have a very good friend that has had one flying in an 8A for 10 years. The cam lobe wear problem is where that engine gets a bit of a reputation. However, I believe that there is some lore to that and in general is a very solid power plant.
I know that Neil had to do a fair bit of work to get the cowling to work properly with that engine due to the location of certain parts, to including building a hump in the cowl, etc.
If you don't mind doing a bit of fiddling because its not a widely used engine than I would say go for it.

Is the -8A you're referring to Neil Dickenson's from Clearview?

Yup, thats Neil that I was referring to. Its a sweet plane and the engine has treated him fairly well. I just remember the rigmarole that was gone through to the baffles/linkages/cowling to work for that engine.
Its not that it was a really tough engineering problem, just an engine without a factory fwf kit.

If you would like to get in touch with Neil to see what issues he went through with his engine, PM me and I will get you his contact info.

Thanks Mike, I requested some additional information including a pic of the data plate with the serial number and have not heard from him since. The more I research the less I want it. It comes with 9 to 1 compression so that would confine me to 100LL. Sounded like his daughter needed a heart transplant so he may be dealing with that?
