First they say size doesn't matter, so hopefully my engine is big enough. One thing I can say: My engine is well hung. Took all of 20 minutes, the first 3 bolts took <10minutes by myself, then my son got back and helped me wiggle/jiggle the last bolt in place.

Now what's next?

1. prop
2. cowl
3. baffles
4. exhaust
5. figure out the cabling(might move to #1 or 2)

Brian,

First off....CONGRATS on hanging your engine!

Now that you have done the easy part, welcome to working on the hard stuff. there is a dependency on how everything goes together now. The prop has to be hung to get the spacing for the cowl right. The cowl needs to be installed in order for baffles.

Exhaust needs to be mounted before you can run any cables. In fact, I would mount the exhaust, then run the fuel/oil/pressure lines, and then the cabling. Basically start with the stuff that's the toughest to bend/move (i.e. exhaust) and move to more flexible tubes from there. Finish it off with wires.

At this rate maybe I'll have the cowl complete by christmas.....ok maybe not. Gots to do some family stuff for the next week or so

Had a friend mention I should NOT do the cowl until the fwd top skin and firewall is riveted in place. I thought most folks do that skin last.

Should I run my forward wiring and get all the panel wires in place, rivet the top skin before I get carried away with the cowl?

That forward top skin is almost always saved to last. Why did your friend recommend you wait until that skin is riveted? If thats the case, then you will pretty much have to do everything (wiring, canopy, control, etc..) before you can do the cowl. I haven't riveted mine on yet (give me 4 weeks!), so I can't speak out of experience on this matter.

Looking good so far, keep up the great progress.

Mounting everything that "has" to go where it bolts/mounts is priority to attach first; Exhaust, etc. (like everyone else suggested) Then, you can move on to hoses, ignition wires, then just plain old wiring last after the baffles are done.

I have my cowl fitted, baffles about 75% done, and all of the FWF wiring finished. (hooked up the EGT & CHT probes and wires last night). It was cool to take a heat gun to the surrounding area and one by one verify tempature readings on my AF3500 display.

Oil door, front center baffle and the FAB intake are about what's left for me FWF. I suspect the FAB will need to be cut and modified, so that will take some time

Once the engine is hung you need the exhaust pipes, then the prop, FAB, the baffeling, Cowling, wiring and all engine connections,and the very last thing you do is the top fuselage skin!

not yet. The grandkids gave me the colors, then I picked a few patterns I liked and Chad made up some drawings. Later today at the kids house, I'm going to get a group vote and pick the favorite. The drawings aren't the final scheme, but should be reasonably close.

Chad, Thanks a bunch. I took one of the pics to the guy helping me paint. As soon as he saw it, he said. "oh man We're doing that!" He got real excited.
The last plane he painted was a '46 Pacer and they painted it: "Taliban Tan"<--- his words.

The colors will be a little different than these drawings, but gives you an idea.
The yellow will be exactly like the prop yellow. and the purple will be more like the Vikings Football helmet. Anyway, I gave the grandkids the privilege of selecting the colors. Their request was Yellow, Purple and Bright.

We like these lines.

Tied in votes was this one

granddaughter fav was Purple purple purple, eeee....guess you had to be there to really experience the squeal

I'm sure some folks won't like any of them. Too flashy or too busy for some people. Others like military schemes or checkered tails. We wanted something different and these are different enough for us. final scheme is yet to be determined, but you get the idea.

I figure I won't need wigwag lights to be seen.
