Thanks Mike. Follow up question... The instruction (I mean Vans brief almost worthless) manual says to countersink the holes in the spar for the inspection plates with a #40 counter sink bit. But if I drill the hole first with a #27 bit so that I can fit a #6 screw through it, the #40 countersink bi...

Drill bit size?
Would someone please tell me what size drill bit to use for a #6 bolt?
I'm drilling the holes in the spar flange for the W-822 access plate.
Thank you!

Autopilot or not?
Obviously I'm about 67 years away from getting to this point, but I'm wondering if it's worth it to install an autopilot? Probably 90% of my flying will be flights less than an hour, but is it worth it to have an autopilot on the long flights? Has anyone else debated this? Did you install one or not...

I give up. Today I ruined my THIRD trim tab. This time, I had all the folds perfect-I've mastered that part! But I had a hell of a time lifting the tab off the workbench with that stupid carpet tape holding it down. After I was finished bending the third tab over, I was working it back and forth to ...

I've been working on this all day with great results. It's done! I tried making the gap less but any less than it was and I wasn't getting the required travel. It is now complete as far as mounting the elevators to the HS. http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n7/marky613/Forum%20Pics/Elev_done.png Doe...

Elevator to HS gap?
I didn't find any spec in the manual other than "no binding". My gap between the elevator and HS is 3/16". Is this ok? Should it be tighter? I'm thinking that if I screw in the hinge eye bolts the gap will close up a bit, but I'm not sure what it's suppose to be. Here's a pic...but since it's such a...

Yes it's a tedious job. I remember doing the ribs on my S-6S and it was not too fun. That's why I want to get them done and out of the way first. Once they're done, it's going to be nice to just rivet them on when the time comes! (oh, and when I get tired of doing the ribs, maybe I can work on my th...

Dave-I'm glad your stickers are holding up well. They should last many more years. I have a RANS S-6S sticker on my left window and an RV-7A on my right window. They've both been there for a few years and they still look brand new. I just screwed up my second elev trim tab! Dang it. I see what I'm d...

What to do first? (wings)
Hi all, I just unpacked the wing kit so the first thing to do is inventory. After that, it looks like the first order of business is to build the wing jigs. Does anyone see a problem if I did the worst task first-debur, flute, and strighten all of the ribs? I have a nice clean workbench now and it s...

Bruce, you are referring to the white aircraft stickers on the AircraftStickers.com website. Those are all white vinyl graphic stickers. Actually, they are now available in black but I have to get that info on the site. These drawings I'm doing are something completely different. These are drawn on ...
