I had mine done in 2011, and had quotes from $5-12,000. My AP/AI didn't have his booth setup at the time, but said last year he thought it would be $5-6k for a job like mine. He said having a bare plane is a huge time and money saver--makes sense!!

What kind of prices are you getting for a paint job? How complicated are you planning? My local AP/IA set up a paint shop a couple years ago and does some very nice work.

I went flying in the C-180 today, after my wife volunteered me to take a co-workers son and girlfriend flying. All four of us were up sightseeing(her first time in a small plane), and he and my wife had set it up so he could propose to her. She was very excited, and said yes! We landed at a grass st...

I like the idea, and will like it more when they put the little wheel on the right end.

But I am a bubba, and at 6'4" I always like bigger planes :)

If you have the larger bore countersink, you can just set it shallow, so it matches the -3 head. Otherwise, you will need to countersink starting with a 40 hole and step drill it to 27. If you are installing a screw into the countersink, why a 40? Shouldn't it be for the #6 screw? Are you dimpling t...

Do you warm up the engine at full rich? Does it get any better if you lean it? 175-200 rpm seems kind of high.

Yes, johnk is on the right track. It is the same mentality you get from the old guard when they scoff at a kit plane--because in the old days, they made them from plans. It seems like some feel the fact of starting a plansbuilt aircraft in the 60s or 70s and never finishing it is more of an accompli...

Ya, I drilled it already. Hopefully it will stay where it is, at least for the summer. It is a small crack, at the back of the canopy. It will never bother me, if it stays where it is. The actual attaching the canopy, with sika or rivets, is nothing compared to the trimming and matching up the skirt...

I joined the cracked canopy club! Crap!

I joined the cracked canopy club :bang: Had the plane in the shop to wash it up on Wednesday. Happened to notice a small crack near the rear of the canopy today. I tried to stop drill it, so I will see if it goes anywhere. I did the sika flex method, and it doesn't have any riviets. Time for a smoke...
