I did mine when they were on the stand. I was able to do them all solo and I think I pretty much followed the procedure set out in the instructions. Here are some pictures and a description from the event: http://www.rv8plane.com/?id=146 . If you look through them, I think I may have some more pictu...

On mine, I left the stall warner out filled the holes with pop rivets after countersinking a bit. I did make little backing plates to go behind each one just to give the rivet a bit more to grab onto. Probably not necessary but it seemed like a good a idea at the time. Also, I tapped the heads of th...

Unfortunately no, it isn't on order. I knew I was PCSing at the end of this March and I just found out I am going to try out life on the east coast ~ I'm headed to the Baltimore/DC area. I've planned it pretty much perfectly so that I finish the wings up just before the move. I just started looking ...

I put the tubing in the wing and they are just sitting in the pitot bay for now. I am going to wait a while to actually install the pitot so I don't break it off in transit. As for the string, I made a loop: down through the conduit and back through the lightening holes and then tied the ends togeth...

I've run out of things to do on the wings besides the pitot and wiring and bottom skins which leaves me with some questions. I've installed the conduit but don't have any wires run but I did run a string down the conduit. If I put the bottom skins on, will that string take care of getting the wires ...

So I feel like I hit a milestone today and I felt like sharing. The wings are off the stand and into the cradle! It feels like it's taken forever to get to this point... From the today's entry in my website: http://www.rv8plane.com/Images/28dec11_1.jpg By the way, the swiveling lockable rubber wheel...

I thought the same thing. It looked like there was no room for an out and if there was some contact it would cause a domino-like effect with contact going down the line. Not saying that they weren't being safe, it just looked like a little more hairy situation than the flying V with less room for er...

So I am to the point where I need to buy my landing lights but $500 seems a little outrageous. If I were to buy the duckworks round hole installation kit only and then supply my own lights, what would I need? Checking eBay, I saw an auction for 2 Xenon HID bulbs, 2 digital HID ballasts, and the wiri...

Masking tape helped my riveting. Put it on the face of flush set and it keeps it from sliding around so much. Put in on the tip of cupped set keeps it from gnarling up the rivet head and gives me better results. The layer of tape on the flush set lasts about 50 rivets. On the cupped set, it only las...
