Re: Bonderite (alodine) or not?
Meh, .... I'm gonna have to go find that issue of the RVator that had the multi-year primer comparison.

Re: Bonderite (alodine) or not?
Another skirmish in the primer-wars! I wouldn't waste my money Alodining something I was gonna spray with self-etch primer. Self-etching primer does what it says, it etches. on virgin aluminum I don't use Alumiprep or any of that fancy stuff for self-etch primer either. I've used SEM rattlecan prime...

Re: Position of 3-in-one tip wing tip lights to meet visibility requirements
Ken, Good luck with your endeavor's. If you are still considering the fiberglass A600 nav light mount inserts, the company that makes or made them for vans is Aero Strategies Unlimited, and I would bet if you called them they could make you a set, I think they make the gear leg fairings for vans as...

Re: Position of 3-in-one tip wing tip lights to meet visibility requirements
Hi Ken, I did the same. Used the Aero LED Pulsar and the vans fairing. Old wingtips on my RV7. Kevin, Thanks for the pics! I wish I could buy those light mount fairings. From reading a post on VAF, it sounds like those things are rarer than hen's teeth. But, those pictures make me even more convinc...

Position of 3-in-one tip wing tip lights to meet visibility requirements
I have the older 415 wing tips on my RV-8 Q/B wings. I'm gonna use the Aveo PowerBurst lights and want to know if someone else has determined the best position for lowest profile that still meets visibility requirements.
Want to keep it simple, low profile and no rudder tail light.
Thanks!

Looks good to me! As for solo riveting, if you don't have one of the Flush Swivel Rivets sets, I recommend picking one up from Avery http://www.averytools.com/prodinfo.asp?number=1047 . They're great for solo riveting. I've used mine extensively. Cheers, Peter Thanks Peter! As of this morning, I ha...

So, my neighbor came over and helped me buck some rivets tonight. We spent about an hour practicing on some scrap and then tackled the vertical stab. We got the forward spar rivets and center rib done on the first side. And almost finished the other side before it got too late. It looks to me like I...

Re: Cracked Sky-Tec Starter
... So here's my list of options: 1) Stick with the same Sky-Tec 149-12LS starter (Warranty Repair?) 2) Switch to the Sky-Tec 149-NL ($429) 3) Switch to the B&C BCS206 Starter($550) 4) Switch to the Hartzel X-Drive Starter ($430) I think I am leaning to go with either the SkyTec 149-NL or the B&C s...

Kenny, You really need a regulator with a pressure gauge so you can dial in accurate pressures. Start with lower pressure (30 psi) and work yourself up. Here's a helpful table I used when I was building for pressures: ... Thanks! Thats the info I was looking for. I kinda figured the tool pressure w...

Back Rivet Set
Had a little trouble back-riveting the lower rudder hinge brackets on the vertical Stab rear spar this morning. I was using a 2X gun with an Avery back-rivet set. The rivets are AN426-AD4. And, the flow restrictor I installed on the gun doesn't really seem to do anything. So, the pressure at the gun...

Thanks! I probably will end up with the Archer nav antenna set up in the wing tips. But, I'd hate to close up the VS now, without the conduit, and then decide later on I should've put it in. After looking at finished aircraft, its obvious that any wiring in the VS would more sensibly be placed forwa...

Vertical Stab wire run?
I want run conduit up the vertical stab in case I end up installing a VOR antenna there.
Should I run it forward of the FWD spar, opening up the existing tooling holes for that purpose?
