Blue Mountain out of business

If there is any interest and folks can send me some sample files I can see if I can add support for the faa database updates as part of the Open Eagle project (ref. Experimental Class topic)....for a reasonable update fee.... Also, anybody want to be guinea pig and see what it would take to break in...

Sunligtht readable displays

Try googling sunlight readable lcd display and begin learning about who's who in the zoo and the costs. Sunlight readable displays are still quite costly, but the costs are coming down at the same time cost and availability of solid state drives are coming down. You might also google carputer as a t...

Slick...and uses the FAA's official data...

Yep, and you can tailor things to suit. With the mini-towers coming up to speed (their buggy and low powered apparently) we may in the coming year be able fit a screamer system in a small box in the cockpit to drive whatever size and brightness display you can afford! 8) I've found setting up flight...

OpenEagle

I have some .ogg and .mpg videos (grainy) on the synthetic vision page of my website: http://www.cobbin.com/synthetic_vision/synthetic-vision.htm Current development source code is also available which integrates with FlightGear's current development code which uses the Open Scene Graph (OSG) librar...

airspace 0.2.1 release

I just finished updating my website to release version 0.2.1 of the airspace program. For bandwidth challenged or non programming types I can publish a prebuilt dvd of the database to install with flightgear. Should work with the windows version of lflightgear but it will be a day or so before I can...

SV_ Translucentcy....

Give me a couple days to clean some things up and I'll update my website. You can download the early system now and I think I have a copy of the corresponding DAFIF database on the site. The new version works off a newer DAFIF (they tweak the fields over time....)...and as a the FAA get's it's act t...

Beats me, not sure what you are referring to. I put up a translucent boundary for the myriod of Class A - E and Special use Airspace boundaries.

Synthetic Vision: Open source project based on flighgear

I have an experimental synthetic as an engineering prototype which uses the Crossbow uNAV sensor in combination with the open source Flightgear flight simulation software. In addition to driving the 3d flight sim using the Crossbow sensor, I have done some extensive automation to analyze the DAFIF d...

temporary main gear

We needed to move the fusalage from the bedroom to the garage for rigging the wings....and to finish demolition and construction of a new sliding glass door....and since we do not have the finishing kit yet we had to come up with a main gear solution thought would not scratch the main gear legs. The...

main longeron: "adjusting the bend"

I was a little apprehensive when bending the main longerons for the radius in the cabin area. Accordingly when we flipped the canoe over it turned out the longeron could use a little extra bend. The fixture below is easy to make and did the adjustments just fine to get that extra 1/16 of an inch or ...

simple part holders for washers and bolts

I chuckle when I recently saw 42$ for a set of washer wrenches. The modified band saw blade method has worked fine for me and skewers likewise have done the trick on bolts. Not shown is a pair of needle nose plyers with the sides ground down for use in rigging the washers on the control collumn and ...

Alligator squeezer tooling.

We picked up an alligator squezer a few years back at OSHKOSH and never did see how you put tooling on the rascal. I modified the jaw slightly to support the head of an AN bolt and now use a bolt fastened to a series of simple flat anvils and washers to set the tool. The alligator squezer worked gre...

Enhancing squezer force on Avery Squezers.

I have found we had much better control over quality of squezed rivets, particularly the 1/8 inch rivets by putting the squezer in a mill vise for support and then using body weight to press down on the handle. The second photo is of a quick and dirty squezer frame to accept Avery Yokes that uses a ...

f-793-vent-bracket-milling

This little fixture worked wonders for milling the radius that fits against the plastic eyeball vent. The radius is milled using a home grown linux cnc system I have been working on off and on for a couple of years. Been pleasantly surprised as to the utility of my antique 1957 J head Bridgeport con...

fixture for milling reliefs in F-768D angle

A little step and repeat fixture to mill the slots in the bracket. They come out really nice this way. I did not think just drilling holes and snipping the excess away would come out that nice. The cleco's are more than sufficient to hold the work in place while milling. http://www.rivetbangers.com/...

Here is an example of a home made platenut jig made from 1/4 inch bar stock. I have used this jig to drill the joint plate between the leading edge and fual tank for the RV-7A wing. http://www.rivetbangers.com/albums/hangar/2004_1114_s_rv7_0002.jpg http://www.rivetbangers.com/albums/hangar/2004_1114...

shop made c-frame press

Here's an early photo of my c-frame press. The rule in front of it is a 24" rule so you can get an idea of the heft of this critter. It's made out of 2x2 square pipe (1/4 inch wall thickness) and is very stout. The double pillar arrangement versus usage of a weldment to form the "C" is very strong. ...
