That's a good first step PK. My test kit consisted of the HS end rib and front spar :) I was so fustrated after I screwed-up my first assembly, I almost threw the whole thing in the garbage and quit. But a call to a local builder (who came right over) calmed me down. He showed me how to drill-out th...

I prefer and built the slider for several reasons.... 1. You can safely leave the canopy open during a hot day without fear of wing or prop-blast destroying your canopy; 2. Having a roll bar makes me feel MUCH safer; 3. Easier ingress/egress; 4. Looks cool. Granted, it would be nice to have easy acc...

I’m glad I built a tail dragger –6 for all of the usual reasons. I'm very happy with my –6, especially how well it handles during take-off and landing. To be honest, knowing that the –6 is about the best landing aircraft I’ve flown, I’ve never dreaded a landing. With all of that said…if I were to bu...

Those fuel burns look very good! Keep in mind, a 200 HP IO-360 will burn 14 gph at WOT, but at cruise, where the engine in only making 150 (75% power) the engine will still burn 9 to 10 gph. With that in mind, the mini-turbine seems to have a little better SFC. I would expect that at the same 150 HP...

On the can there is a mix ratio, read it. Understand it. Follow it to the letter! If you are going to be mixing small amouts find your self an accurate scale and a calculator. Some PRCs mix ratio is 13.3:100. (Ya, Ya, I know, I can do the math in my head, but these products are not cheap, why risk ...

I hate to start a flame war....but I will if I have to... Most people tend to go overboard with priming. Way overboard. The reason we use alclad aluminum is because it is corrosion resistant. There really isn’t any reason to prime the interior surface of every skin inside the aircraft. The only exce...

Pro Seal is a just a generic term that we RVers use for Class A and Class B, two part polysulfide based Aircraft Fuel Tank Sealant. I didn’t use Pro Seal on my wings. The product that I used (and used on many RV's) is a product made by CHEMSEAL and distributed by SEAL PACK. There isn’t a difference ...

Is there a 'shelf life' to the wash primer as supplied by Vans on the QB kits. So if I take say 3-4 years to build will it still take other primer/paint applications after that period of time? There should not be any shelf life issues with the primer. Can't yet make up my mind!!! (don't say anythin...

Air tools are lighter and last a lot longer (and as Spike has suggested, they are cool) than tools with motors. "I've seen on some sites people actually suggesting dimpling the 'reversed' site of the skin?" You may have confused this with back-riveting. where the bucking bar (or plate) is held on th...

A Monel MK 319 BS steel shank pop-rivet would work well here. It's a simple mistake, fix it...and move on. There will be other mistakes - some you can fix - others that will require new parts. Don't feel bad, I built two left ailerons and two right flaps for my -6. With all of the cracks in my rudde...

Right now I'm flying behind a good old O-320 with an electronic ignition, and my instrumentation consists of gyros, dials and an electronic engine monitor (EPI-800). A mix of old and new tech. To date everything has worked very well, but when I build my next RV, it more than likely will have an alte...

I'm 6'1" and 190ish pounds. I fit in my -6 very well, but my brother at 6'4", 220 pounds does not. It's not so much the height and weight...it's the girth of his legs. He can't get anything near 1/2 deflection (left to right) on the control stick. I can't tell you how many big bubbas I have gotten i...

The standard kit is very easy to build. You could save a lot of money by using this excellent kit. However, the quick build kits are constructed much better than the average builder can do on his/her own. Not only that, they will chop a lot of time and aggravation off the project. All things being e...
