I talked to Gus at Van's and he said that the F-303E part designation is not applicable for the 7 or 9, as this sheet of .063 was first for the RV-3 Part F-303E. Gus said that this sheet of .063 comes with both the 7 and 9 kit, and it is in both the tip-up and the slider kits. He was not able to off...

F-303E - What drawing is it on?
I have a piece of AS3-063x4.5x10 that my finish kit inventory says is for F-303E. I looked through the drawings and I was not able to find where F-303E is located.
Anybody know which drawing F-303E is on...and if not, where it goes on the plane?
Thanks!

If the rivets are on a line of about 20 or 30 in a row then leave it as is and move on. If it is a bracket that is held on by three rivets then I get a little more picky. Just my two cents. Oh yeah. Get the gauges from Avery too. Mikey RV6 wings I agree completely with Mikey. That is the same philo...

Larry, At the time that the canopy cracked, I did not have the side skin on and dimpled. I was attaching three #6 screws through the canopy and the side rails so that I could drill the skins to the sides, and then drill the holes for the #6 screws through the canopy to the side skins. Ron, I was won...

High 60's low 70's when I was cutting and drilling. Most likely low 60's when I was tightening the screws. I'm sure hoping that I don't have to have temps in the 70's just to tighten the screws on the canopy!!! Hey Ron, What a bummer  Just out of curiousity, what was the temperature of you're s...

It's a #6 screw for all of the canopy mounting. The canopy was c-sunk for the #6 screw and the dimple on the side skin. I don't have any pictures of that area yet...I'll try to shoot some tonight. I'm curious as to the size of the screw versus the size of the hole. Do you have an pictures of your mo...

Crack in the canopy :-(
Well, I learned a valuable lesson yesterday...don't tighten the screws in the canopy too tight. I was putting the three screws in each side of the canopy so that I could drill the side skins to the frame. Well, I was tightening the screw, and heard the wonderful sound of acrylic cracking! Unfortunat...

Setting the Wing Incidence & Sweep in a Small Shop
Van’s Plans state that if you are limited in space, you can attach one wing at a time, and set up the sweep and incidence. Unfortunately, Van’s does not specify exactly how to do so. This how-to is intended to help fellow space constrained builders set the incidence (and sweep!) one wing at a time. ...

Thanks guys! Ohh, the tip-up vs slider debate. Well, I decided to go with tip-up for a few reasons. First, I like the unobstructed view that the tip-up provides, second, I like the accesibility to the instrument panel that you get in a tip-up. (If anything on my plane will ever change, it will 75% p...

Opened the canopy for the first time!
Well, last night was a monumantal night, or at least as RV building nights go. I drilled the canopy to the frame, and with it clecoe'd together, I was able to open the canopy for the first time! http://www.varconfections.com/RV-9A/Finish%20Kit%20Pics/Canopy%20opened%20for%20first%20time.jpg Besides ...

Canopy Initial Cutting
I am at the point that I need to do my initial cutting of the canopy on my RV-9A Tip-up. The plans say to trim the excess material (clamping area) off of all sides (sorry I don't remember the exact wording). When I look at the canopy frame I see an area with some ridges that go all around the canopy...

Soooooo, edumacate me now... What's the diffamarence? CJ I knew I'd get called out sooner or later. All of my aero and aircraft design classes have been a while, but I'll try to thumb through my book and see if I can't get a good answer for you! Luckily, my wife realizes the monetary value of...

John if you notice one of the biggest differences is that the HS on the 9 is a constant chord airfoil. The other RV's, such as your 7, make use of a swept trailing edge. The chord of your HS gets smaller going outboard accordingly. -- John Wow, learn something new every day! You know, I've looked a...

I just noticed something while surfing Airwolf's site. The -9 has a fatter end rib on the HS than the -7. This is news to me! I thought they all thad the HS-X06 end rib! These look like the same ones used on the root! I wonder why? How would that affect handling or flight characteristics? Anyone? :...

Tip-Up Canopy Hinge Pin Drilling
Well, I'm at the point of my building where I have to drill the holes for the hinge pins in the canopy frame. The plans state to drill the 1/4 holes in the canopy frame with the front fuse skin Riveted on. Currently I do not have the skin riveted on, and was hoping to delay this step until one of th...
