The Wing is Done!!!

That's it, finished it. On Friday the 12th I finished riveting the platenuts to the wingtip and attached it. Now I am afraid I will be idle for a while. :| We are avid Harley riders and the wife wants a new bike. Soooo..., It'll be a while before I can save enough for the next kit. That's ok though,...

Holy cow did you stir up a hornets nest. I tried this in the RV8 forum with a post titled "Tail Dragger .vs. Trike" Guess I was in the wrong place.

I just recently decided on the TD. There are just too many nose wheel collapses for the number flying to suit me.

Ok, so maybe it's my fault. I ordered a dozen of those bolts a while back. They probably took them from your kit. :| One of the irritating things about the kits is they give you the exact number of bolts you need. If you mess one up you no recourse other than to order another one. I tightened one a ...

Captain,
When you get a package with no note soon and a strange name, don't be alarmed. It's the tank attach bracket I promised to send. Sorry it took so long, I'm just real slow.

I was actually the last to fly the Varga in which I was training over ten years ago. I was doing touch and goes with my instructor when a main wheel came off. The left wing touched but was not heavily damaged. The plane still sits waiting for repair, and I had even offered to buy it. The owner is a ...

All I can say is, Wow! I could almost picture the flight as I read. Bet you can't wait to do that in an RV.
Incidentally, I did much of my training in a Varga Kachina. Also, I almost bought one a couple years back. That’s when I decided to build.

There is a guy I know of not too far away who built an RV6 in his basement. He had planned on making some modifications to his staircase to get the fuselage out, but that didn’t work out. He dug a ramp next to his basement and knocked a hole in the wall. That worked quite well. :)

I'm building an 8 also and just recently decided on the tail dragger. I've gone back and forth on this for a while, for various reasons. The reason for my decision: "Nose wheel Collapse". I've read about several occurrences of this and I don't like the sound of it. I've got lots of time in the Cub a...

Sorry I didn't answer earlier... I've been away on vacation.

I went with the capacitive fuel sender option. Used Pr-Seal to seal the tanks.

One un-related question... How did you reserve a tail number? I'm thinking if I did that it would be a motivator.

This tip might help. When using the C Frame to dimple, always slide the shaft closed before banging it with the hammer. It can't shift that way.

I would say that 1/4 inch is just fine and here's why. Go pick up any of your ribs and measure the distance of the holes in the flange from the edge. I'll bet you can't find one that's more that 1/4 inch away.

Mustang... Without going into a lot of detail as to why, I would challenge your statement that a capacitive sender will only measure the last 15 gallons.

I would like to ask any builders who have completed planes for comfirmation here. Is this true?

The real issue here is all about compromise. If you’re willing to cut corners here you might be more willing to cut corners later on something more important. The replacement cost of the stiffeners probably isn’t too stiff. And, Vans ships pretty darn quick too.

Z Brackets should be Optional...

:bang: I've had a few bone-headers but here is the latest. Yesterday I completed the fuel cell for the right wing. My tank was situated very near the wing so I had a close visual aide, and my plans were, of course, nearby. I had the attach brackets ready with the nut plates attached, all lying in or...
