Another way to do the hinge pins for the cowl sides is to run the hinge pins in from the cockpit and fasten them in the cockpit. It doesn't work on the RV-4's but is great on side by sides.

If your plans don't call out a torque spec for an item Vans kits usually have a standard torque spec for various AN bolts and/or nuts. I would use that spec. Good luck! How soon do you expect to be flying?
