Night VFR is also a good use for one. If you've ever been out on a clear VFR night in perfect weather and had the light horizon blend with the star horizon it can be pretty helpful. I've lost the horizon over large cities during approach and departure in a turn, as-well-as over mountains and forests...

I look at the question a little different. An airplane at gross weight is an airplane at gross weight. The only performance variable is the center of gravity. I'm building mine light and powerful because I want a hot rod, day/night VFR, and typically won't fly at gross or super long distances. That'...

5.5 inches, the width of the door's threshold between the hall of the house and the wall of the hangar its wrapped around. I live with my plane at the airport. At least I will in another month. Its about half insulated, and the sheetrock starts next week. I stopped building the airplane last spring,...

One point everyone is missing is taxiing in strong winds. The airplane is reasonably controlable until the wheels are firmly planted. I had the opportunity to talk to two Cessna 207 pilots last spring, who 1 week apart, were taxiing their airplanes in 35 knot gusts. Both planes were turned to quarte...

I'd have to concur with Capt John. Here in Alaska the Modine heater is a common sight in most garages, my present and last house had them, and they work well without breaking the bank. My new hangar has in-floor glycol heating, I guess I'll see how it does this winter.......Larry

Funny this thread should come up, just yesterday a friend of a co-worker called because he heard I was building the 8. He said he had purchased a completed empennage and someone in Oregon was building his wings, but he wanted to make sure he was still 51% compliant when "he" finished "his" airplane....

CJ, The FEDEX freight from Van's to Palmer, Alaska was $438. We unloaded them from the truck into the back of my PU in the road, then I backed it into the garage, and unloaded them by myself. I have an 8' bed PU and the one crate was 15' long. I wouldn't want to have to drive too far. Slow build win...

I love polished airplanes, I have a polished Skymaster. In stead of building the practice kit I bought 16ga galvanized sheetmetal and riveted together a grinder stand. Dimpled, flush riveted, and all, seemed more practical than their little airfoil............

I remember when that happened, I don't know how they turned that into a foreign film. That was an n numbered airplane, and it was a Partinavia. The pilot was performing a routine similar to Bob Hoover's at an airshow, and did that at the bottom of a loop. His wife was the show announcer.... All of t...
