Re: No longer a Subergin!

Chad, For the non-Subie types, what kind of cost difference is there between the Sub and Lyc, comparing as apple-to-apple as possibile? (Jim ducking for cover so CJ doesn't throw eggs at me for possibily aligning myself with the non-lyc crowd. Hey, they need love too!) Well, thanks to a very nice RV...

Jim, we need to get together soon and do some airplane building together! :) CJ CJ, Got to fly over your house in Mar on the TU-154! Granted, at 20K feet, but it was still over your house. The Russians may have even imaged it! It is the flying season, so I have missions every month until Sep. So it...

Pleasing to stay safe, capitalist pig, while in Russia. Oh, and thanking for service to country. (He said in the worst Boris Baddinov imitation ever.) Scott, Thanks! At least when we go into Russia, it is on our own OC-135, so every day we fly it is like my own little piece of American territory. S...

John, I was very envious of you. While you were of sunning and funning, I was in central Russia living not quite as grand a life as you were. Oh well, at least YOU had fun! Wish I could have joined you, but the US Government had other plans. I head back over next week. Glad you had such a great time...

CJ,

The NATOPS (flight) manual for the P-3 recommends the use of oxygen for 15 min/pilot prior to landing for flights at night where you have been up at altitude. Have found it helps some, but have not routinely done it, as the majority of my flying has been during the day.

Three years ago I got to fly right seat in an E-2 off of the carrier JFK (I am land based Navy pilot, EP-3). It was a total blast and I was surprised how nible it was, for the shape and size of it. It has the same engines (only half as many) as my plane, so I was familiar with the response. We got t...

Spike,

How do you clean up after drilling and cutting? Don't the metal burrs get caught up in the carpet?

I was thinking about using old carpet, but figured it would be too difficult to clean. Ended up using old pieces of carpet and some of that interlocked floor padding tiles on top.

Another examples of Van's lack of focus on the customer is the fact that they won't correct the -7 instructions that contain known mistakes or unclear wording. To take it even further, they won't rewrite the -7 instructions to the standard of the -10, as "there is no money in it"!

Oh well...

Chad, I know where you are coming from. Since I have very little time in GA planes, flying with the throttle in the center is something that seems very uncomfortable to me. I was trained with LH throttle in the T-34, but have done the majority of my flying in King Air's and EP-3's, which have RH thr...

Guys, Thanks for all the replys. Before I wrote this post, I didn't measure anything because I didn't want to bias myself in any way. Kind of like trying on a pair of jeans without looking at the size and just going by what feels right. After reading all the posts, I went an measured where I have be...

Dave, Since yours is the only workbench other than CJ's that I have actually seen, I am using your 4X8 one as a model for mine. I don't know if you remember when I took all those pictures over a year ago, but that was my goal. Been working off of the 36" high ones that I had when I lived in RI and w...

Workbench height

Hey guys, I am in the process of building a new workbench. I am going to make it 4'X8' so that there is plenty of room. I was also going to make it with a little bit of an overhang so that I can sit on a stool and still work, not having to stand the entire time. Since I can make a stool any height I...

Thanks. I guess a common name, but I did happen to run into the guy with your name that I went to school with on a message board one day! Small world.

Best of luck!

Kind of off-topic, but were you at one time a Marine? I knew two Fred Fagens, father and son. Both Marines. Ring a bell?

Take care,

Chad, This is what I did most of my advanced training in, about 85 hrs worth. Sweet bird to fly and an awesome instrument trainer. We also got to fly some form in 'em which was a balst!
