Has anyone finished a -8 empennage? Is there extra -5 rivets in the bag or do I need to order 6 more?

All the rivets drilled out pretty easy. The bearing and other HS-411 look great. I attempted to scuff the smiley out, but don't feel comfortable with the outcome. I am going to suck it up an order a new one. I think it is worth the $4.30 for the piece of mind alone. I'll skip Starbucks Monday mornin...

The picture doesn't show it, but the dimple is pretty deep. I thought about sanding it down, but was affraid to thin the part to much. I may just order HS-411 if I can drill out the rivets without enlarging the holes. If it doesn't work out the way I am hoping then I will suck it up and buy both HS-...

I did it

Glad I got the first mistake out of the way early. :bang: I guess this is what I get for working after midnight. I was riveting the flange bearing VA-146 in between the HS-411s and somehow this happened. I still can not figure out how the hell I managed to do this. Notice rivet at 5 o'clock and belo...

I just got back from Bills, opps I mean Lowes. I picked up a Campbell-Hausfield in-line air filter and oil lubricator. I gotta come up with a set-up to mount them to the wall and have it so I can quick disconnect the lubricator if I want to paint. If anyone has done this and has pics, please post th...

It still works, but it is a pain to have to pull it out to shut it off everytime. Hopefully they will send me a new one and let me keep the bad one until the replacement arrives. Either that or switch to my cordless. :puke:

Sticky Air Drill Trigger

I have a brand new Sioux air drill and went to use it for the first time today. I oiled it and conected to the air hose. The trigger sticks in and I have to pull it back out to stop. I tried putting a little oil on the trigger, but still sticking. Has anybody experienced this before. I am thinking e...

I was running my 2 stage oil lubricatd compressor last night for the first time. I ran it for about 30 minutes.. When I was finished I opened the drain plug expecting to see some water come out, but there was nothing but air. I do live in Colorado where it is fairly dry. I do not have a water sepera...

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't a self-etching primer a one step process. It etches the surface and primes it as well? Don't make me take back my case of 988. My wife says I am the king of returing. :bang:

OK, is it just me or did you just add buttons that show a users profile, website, instant message, etc. on the bottom of a post? That is pretty cool. Should we remove our url from our signature? Can you add a spell checker while your at it? :)

Sorry to hear about your hot rod. I guess it is a good question to ask my insurance company. I just moved into the house and didn't think it was a good time to be telling them I was building an airplane in my basement. I figured it would freak them out and send my rates through the roof (wonder if t...

Stupid question. Since the second row looks like it has been dimpled too much, is there any way to put something on the bottom side like a 2x4 and un-dimple?

To prime or not to prime

After many hours of research and debating, I have decided to prime only non-alclad parts and mating surfaces. I am going to follow the advice of a local EAA Techincal Advisor/RV builder and use Sherwin Williams 988 self-etching primer. I picked up a case at a local auto paint store for $6.70 a can. ...

I know this sounds like a bad thing to say, but I am glad to hear I am not the only one that had corrosion on the rear spars. I thought it may have been from my shipping box being soaked. I tried using my 6" scotch-brite wheel on my bench grinder, but it seems difficult to keep it flat. I also learn...

Rear Spar HS-609PP Finishing

Anyone have a good method for smoothing HS-609PP to a satin finish besides sanding with 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper? I am tempted to go buy a table belt/disc sander.

I know it is required if you finance parts of your project. I don't have it right now and probably won't if I can somehow manage to pay cash for everything.

There is a good (short) article about insuring your project and home owner's insurance on the EAA website. http://www.eaa.org/communications/eaane ... rance.html
