Cleaveland C-Frame Table

Has anyone built the C-Frame table from the Cleaveland plans? Just curious what type of wood to use for a top and what kind of carpet works best for the covering.

Thomas-I can't tell by your picture or by the EAA plans, but did you screw the table tops down or just use Elmers carpenter glue? I bought all the material to make the table, but didn't get a chance to build it last night since it was 9pm. Figured I would be nice and not run a circular saw that late.

Bad place to ask that question. You know we are all going to tell you to build the Vans :) Good luck on what decision you make.

I guess the appropriate trick here would be to teach him how to get you tools.

I have noticed several builders own a dog. I am tempted to get a lab after seeing Brad Vier's (RV-8 Builder) dog in action. Go here http://bradskitplane.dyndns.org:8080/ and click on the link next to the picture of his horizontal stabilizer.

Bill Vondane has a excellent builder's website with tons of pictures and tips. It is http://www.rv8a.com. I am sure he has the work tables somewhere on it. I hope his site doesn't sway your decision towards the -8A :bang:

Thomas-I am glad I read your post before I headed off to Home Depot. Your tables are a lot bigger than the 24'"x60" ones I linked in my last post. I also like the idea of having the added lip area for clamping. Do you have the plans for the tables you built?

I really like the looks and dimensions of the EAA tables in this thread so I have decided to build them. My other benches seem like they are too narrow so I am going to dedicate them to mount my grinder and drill press on. Here is the link I found for the EAA table plans http://www.eaa1000.av.org/te...

You can go to geocities.com and set up a free website. It even has a wizard that will help you set it up. You can check out mine at the link below. It is very basic and best of all free.

John, I noticed the 2" RELOC kit at Sears with the Crastman name slapped all over it. Do you have this kit? Will the 3M brand discs work on it? I just don't want to be locked into buying them from Sears.

Just got my tool kit I ordered from Cleaveland and low and behold, there is a brand new 6"x1 1/2" scotch-brite wheel included in the package. I totally forgot that it came with the kit. Glad I didn't buy one elsewhere. Time to start hunting for a place to buy 2" RELOCs and a die grinder.

Scotch-Brite Wheels for Grinder

I have been doing a little web surfing looking for places that sell 3M scotch-brite wheels and have seen different types. What is the best type to mount on a bench grinder?

Yeah, straight 8 is what I really want, it looks so much better, I just like the plane better. ... I went through this decision process before, but it only last about 2 hours. The way I look at it, if the straight 8 is what you really want, build it. I told myself that if I was going to spend all t...

Good post Mikey. That is the thing that has me concerned the most about building. I just can't seem to win my wife's support on this. She would rather buy new furniture for the entire house. I am hoping now that she sees how excited the kids are about building, she will slowly come around. I put tog...

I came home from work tonight hoping to find some packages, but no luck. My 11 year Shane was excited to show me the work he did on the shop. He had put some reinforcement braces on the bench to make it more sturdy. It kind of surprised me and scared me at the same time. They are so excited to get s...

Sorry this is long, but something cool happened for me last night and I wanted to share my story. If you have read some of my other posts you will know I recently bought a new house and have been working feverously to get my home in order so I can start building my -8. So far, I haven't really gotte...

Welcome to the world of flying. I wish I would have decided to build right after aquiring my PPL. The fact that both your spouse and you are both pilots and building together is very cool. Enjoy the journey.

Sure looks like some large oxygen tanks in the first picture. Wonder how long the supply is? Maybe you could get away with one and run a splitter to reduce the weight.
