What does the Lycoming Maintenance Manual / overhaul manual say about power off sudden stoppages?? Does it even define this situation as a sudden stoppage? Speaking as an A&P, that would be the first place I'd be looking. My initial gut reaction though... tear it down. Welcome to aviation, boys! exp...

Pat,

that panel looks HOT! You're gonna feel like your climbing into an F15 or something every time you sit in front of it.

Hey Capt, tried to call you the other night but i guess you were busy busy. The pedals look good, big ups. Good work on going with braided lines too, it'll make the whole affair look that much more airplaney. Plus, when your kicking around with all the cool kids you can brag about it. "yeah man, i g...

Hey Scott, http://www.blueskynetwork.com/ This is the setup the lads are using in Malaysia. Nothing but mountain flying, and they're generally stooging round at no more than 2 or 300ft AGL with a longline underneath. Seem to be having good results with it. Service offers some kind of real time satel...

http://www.thirtythousandfeet.com/track.htm look about halfway down the page, there is a product list. I know of several large helicopter operators using similar products out in the jungle, (helicopter logging) and seem pretty happy with it. You can log onto the website, plug the aircraft rego in an...

More and more of the aircraft i work on is going glass, even the Helicopters. Personally, i think a cockpit looks very nice with just a couple of screens and a standby compass, allbeit a little bland. Having not actually flown glass, im still sitting on the fence, but from a maintenance standpoint, ...

Aircraft Maintenance Engineer... Engines, Airframes, and Structures. Mostly a helicopter background, Bell mediums and just about every light single on the market today, but i've also played with some heavier stuff, C-130's, 727's etc, as well as F111's for a short while. Just about finished my Aerop...

Im not normally a "Glass cockpit" kindof guy, but i really like your panel Pat.

Simple layout, yet still looks techy.

Have you just gone with single Comms, or does one of them glass things gots a second nav/comm setup in it?

Odysee batterys? Pass me the kool-aid! We fit them to just about every helicopter that we get through the hangar, from Hughes 300's through to Bell 205's. I have been told The 205's HEIU (high energy ignition unit) can draw upto 1500Vs at 2000 Amps during the starting cycle (roughly 30 seconds). We ...

my experience with lycs is TVO-435's and HO-360's, which isnt much but i'll chip in my buck oh five anyway. Check the easy stuff first. Spark Plugs. Failing that i would consider pulling the pushrods, check to see if they're bent. If the pushrods are bent it'll make the engine run like a chaff cutte...

Nice jab there Capt.

I meant the 8, but no you mention it, an RV10 taildragger would be kindof cool. Give it retracts, and stick a turbine up front and we'll talk.

Even as a supporter, it still breaks my balls somewhat that they keep pushing their dates to the right, and then to top it off, they started showing people this "twin pac" idea. As far as im aware, they still havent started shipping engines. It certainly is shiney though, and i do like shiney things...

I had one of those little helis, mine was an electric fixed pitch affair. Then my flatmate bought one that was loads bigger, and had collective pitch. Now i want a nitro powered one... The fact that he cooked the engine isnt a huge concern, people fry turbine engines all the time. I've seen photos of a Bell 407 that had a governor malfunction, started pouring unmetered fuel in, EGT got to 2000deg C in under 3 seconds... needless to say his turbine section was nothing more than a p...

Funny you should mention that, the F111 has an internal weapons bay as well . It also has two filthy great afterburning engines to get all that weight off the ground, but thats irrelivant. I rekon with the right mods here and there we could get an RV to roughly the same capability... though im not s...
