That last idea of mine may not work so well if you fly at very high altitudes and the baloons are filled too full on the ground.

I would not get a heavier engine for W&B reasons. If I was going to use a Lycomming I would get an engine builder to make a 220 hp engine out of a parallel valve (the version that is 40 pounds lighter) engine.
