WWI airplanes
OT: Netflix streaming has an excellent NOVA special on WWI planes. "First Air War" features authentic hand-crafted replicas of various planes of the era and details the invention of aerial reconnaissance and combat. I can't imagine an aviator - especially a homebuilder - who wouldn't be interested i...

Yeah, me neither, which is why I asked the same question 10 years ago.

Given the intense lobbying efforts currently underway, I still think 3rd class reform is imminent. ALPA is the only opposition, and they're losing the fight, partially because many of their own members don't agree with their official stand. I just don't see how reform could fail to have a major impa...

Well, I really only chimed in because no one else seemed to have the problem solved already. I love a good product design challenge. Obviously building something for use only in the hangar would be pretty straightforward, but if you actually want to take trips and disembark at a remote destination, ...

About 9 years ago I bought the emp kit for a -7A and enthusiastically began work in a 5' x 9' entry hall in my little rented cottage. I didn't have the space, the time, or the money to build anything more than the tail, but I assumed those things would materialize. They didn't -- although I have mor...

Third class and light sport
If the third-class medical is indeed abandoned, what will the LSA impact be? I'm thinking some LSA manufacturers will fold, and some larger manufacturers will follow Cessna in discontinuing their LS line. Will used light sport prices decrease? Will used non-LS prices increase? As for Van's, maybe th...

Documentation of interior dimensions of various models rant
I'm a little annoyed with Van's regarding their dimensioning documentation of the cockpits. Drawings on the website are pathetically inadequate. I know, I know, find a plane and sit in it. The first RV I got a chance to fly was a -6, and it definitely did not have enough headroom for me. I was slouc...

I'll add my declaration of appreciation to Spike for all his years of selfless service, and to Mike for eagerly accepting the responsibility. Volunteer work, particularly in Chief Administrator robes, can be a job whose demands outweigh its rewards. We lurkers and users don't always express how grat...

That's the cleanest machine shop I've ever seen. Maybe you tidied up a little for the pictures. My little peephole into the economy is focused on manufacturing, and since I can't afford my own machine shop yet I send stuff out. It is getting hard to get anything done around here in a timely fashion....

My 2 cents is that the consumer grade drills are completely useless. Go to an industrial supplier (wherever your local machine shops go to buy tools) and expect to pay $150-$200 for each set. So maybe $500 total for letter, number, and fractional. Those are high speed steel, not cobalt or carbide. Y...

I got mixed reviews about the plane I was considering, from various people. A fellow RB'er hooked me up with a guy local to me who owns a Sierra and is familiar with the Musketeer line. The thing he said that put me off the B19 idea was that these planes were minimally powered when made, and now tha...
