Bob Leffler - Flew West 2/8
I saw this posted yesterday on Bob's Facebook page.... With a heavy heart, I would like you all to know that Bob passed away peacefully earlier this morning after his battle with Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia. We are fortunate that he fought long enough to give all of his immediate family a chance...

Re: Reiff Hotstrip sump heater
seems to be very useful. I suppose you could pack it in the plane, 20 lb dry and some volume. I wonder if they make a smaller version, like half of this. Looks like this may be the ticket! 10 Lbs https://m.vevor.com/diesel-heater-c_10321/12v-5kw-air-diesel-heater-remote-10l-tank-5000w-for-trucks-bo...

Re: Reiff Hotstrip sump heater
I installed the Reiff sump heaters back in 2010. I have them connected to an outdoor wifi controllable outlet (Meross MSS620, $25 https://a.co/d/7gNhpeZ). Works great - from home I can use the Meross app and turn on for free my sump heater. Even a second outlet I sometimes connect to a trickle charg...

Re: oil drain plugs
I also has the "Safe"-Air oil drain plug in my RV for about 12 years. I never really liked it, seemed very cheap. I swapped it out for the Fumoto T202N. I liked the fully locking valve - there is no way this could open in flight. The truly paranoid could safety wire the valve lever. https://i.postim...

Re: Garmin GHA 15 - radar altimeter
$2000 = Affordable? The GHA 15 will be available in August 2023 for an expected street price of $1,995. For additional information, visit http://garmin.com/GHA15. I don't quite see the need for a radar altimeter for what we do. This would easily be calculated using a WAAS GPS and the USGS 1 meter Di...

Re: top cowl - paint peeling on the underside
I've thought many times about covering the inside of my cowl with AL tape. 12" wide tape from Amazon for < $50 is what I am thinking:

Re: under the heat dome - home AC died
I've had many capacitors go bad - more so recently - i think they are build in with a ticking time bomb so HVAC professionals can make easy money. What's unfortunate is you can't buy these through local HVAC warehouses without a license - which is complete crap. Thankfully Amazon delivers next day, ...

A great time was had last week at the Black Otter. I was too busy talking to people to properly document the event. Record crowd as Paul said - 37+ people. 42 if you count the guys at Darwin's table. https://i.postimg.cc/FFjktDHh/PXL-20240723-232849527-MP.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/L6Dq55P7/PXL-202407...

Re: Black Otter 2024
Me being the old salt that I am, I’m in. Pre Otter flight planning at The Chez? Why would we ever mess with trying to change up the perfect day?? What camping spot do you have? We will try to book one adjacent to yours to reduce our needs to walk to the Red Barn for provisioning alcohol.... :) :) :)

Re: WW RV200 service
Where is the WW service center located? about 2-3 years ago I drove it out to Austinburg, OH and they serviced it same day. I think I also heard that facility doesn't service the props any longer. I can't believe I missed out on the Big Chair in Austinburg when I was there! https://i.postimg.cc/0jfj...

I am shocked as to how the RV12 consistently is the top airplane in flight. Flight schools would be my guess?

4/19 - 4/20 Outage RFO
Hey all, Sorry for the ~24 hour outage from Friday Morning to Saturday morning - a SQL query was running in the background for some unknown reason eating up all of the CPU on my VPS causing reboots to occur (and fear of possible drive corruption). I shut down the site temporarily as a precaution. Al...

Re: Ignition systems - truly independent?
That's why I run a slick mag + PMag. If the p-lead wire fails to the slick mag, it keeps on making sparks. The potential of better fuel burn or a smoother engine isn't worth the risk of converting both to electronic ignition. I believe its well proven the most benefit comes from the first electronic...

$3.99/month - get it right! And I use the same server to host rvplane.com, tailnum.com and a couple other personal projects.... I think the only other expense is the domain names (rivetbangers.com/net) at a whopping $25.04/year for both. I do this to keep the information alive. When Spike stopped bu...

Re: Black Otter 2023
It pains me to say it, but I will be skipping OSH this year. Too many other things happening for me to squeeze it in. The RV will be in the general area for the next two weeks at KSGS (South St Paul, MN) and then headed to KBUU for some R&R at a lake house.
Lots of pics please!!
