Congratulations! When I was becoming an airport bum at the age of 13. A couple stopped at our field for gas in their brand new 1954 Cessna 180. They were on their way home from the Cessna factory with their new airplane. It was bright metal with metalic green trim. I thought it was beautiful. After ...

I have a fixed pitch propeller on my RV -6. I live in the Pacific Northwest. There have been times that I've wished for a C/S Prop at high elevation strips on hot days, but other that that I don't really need one. At KEUG, I've climbed out of the Delta Airspace while still parallel to the runway on ...

Here in Oregon, premium auto fuel is around $3.20/gallon. 100LL costs $4.28/gallon at self serve pumps, and more than $5.00 off the fuel truck.

I start the clock at the beginning of the take off run and end it at shut down. I just had the manifold pressure guage rebuilt. The engine turns a two blade Catto Propeller. Going cross country, I use 23" . It turns 2450 to 2500 RPM. It gives me 153 KTS, TAS. At WOT, the airplane will go 165 KTS TAS...

My 0-320 averages 9.2 gph at what seems to be about 70%. I have a pair of Slick Mags firing the plugs. The timing is dead on the money.

Speaking of fuel burn in 0-320s and 0-360s, A friend of mine has a T-18 with a 0-360. I have a RV-6 with a 0-320. When going cross country together, our speeds are very near the same, and our fuel burns are identical. For my money, the 0-360 is a better choice. The power is there if you want it, but...

I have an RV-6 and a Cessna 120 in the same T hangar. It's tight but it works. I must raise the Cessna's right aileron to fit the RV's tail under it. I have spots painted on the floor where the Cessna's wheels must be for the RV to fit. For multiple low wing airplanes, I'd think a little adjusting a...

Several years ago, while flying my Cessna 120 I reported downwind at a non tower airport, then flew a standard power off traffic pattern to the runway. An open cockpit sport plane from the 1930s was at the run-up position. I was on short final when he pulled onto the runway without even looking. I a...

A milling machine motor needs the capacity to run both directions. Three phase motors do that easily with simple switching. Many single phase motors can only run one direction.

How many amps does the motor draw? I have an AC inverter that will convert single phase to three phase, that I could be persuaded to part with. The maximum output is 8 amps. It comes complete with hook-up instructions and operation manual.

Aerodynamic braking is huge with some airplanes. I friend of mine used to fly a Howard DGA-15P for a skydiving club. They flew from a 1900' paved strip at about 400' MSL. The Howard is a heavy airplane. He would wheel land it at about 95 MPH, get the tailwheel on the runway ASAP, and make the turn o...

You can buy a frequency drive that will convert single phase power to three phase. I just happen to have one I might be ready to sell. It is rated for a 3 hp motor. It has a manual that tells how to hook it up.

The first thing you will find when you fly a tail wheel RV is they have more "P" factor during take off and climb than most any production airplane you'll likely encounter. It simply requires that you pay attention and make the appropriate corrections in a timely manner. The other side of this is, t...
