PMAG decision made
I purchased a pair of 114 PMAGS in Mid-August. I was waiting to fly off phase I before installing. They are sitting in the box as a write. When Emagair intiated their SB, I was tempted to pack them up and send them in for a refund. I decided to wait and see what new wrinkles came up the last few wee...

I really like your machine work. I also played with installing a round knob for the aileron trim. I wasn't thrilled about the Vans aileron trim being "backwards". If you need right wing down you move the handle to the left. after flying, it turns out it's pretty intuitive and you get used to it quic...

Tom, Here is a link to the Service Bulletin they issued. I saw something from the FAA also, but can't find it. Both my mags fall under this SB and the right mag on my 7 has to be completely assembled before installation due to battery/case interference on the firewall mounted Odyssey and not having ...

Thanks for the comments guys! I just received a pair of Pmags in the mail. I'll fly one more flight and then pull the slicks off. I already am past the due time of the second inspection on the brand new Slicks. I was planning on going with Pmags all along so I'm pre-wired through the firewall for th...

Chad, Is that phenolic micro balloons? If so, I used a similar red micros provided by Jamestown Distributors. That's what they sent when I ordered my Sikaflex, glass epoxy and supplies from them. It sure makes people take a second look. I wanted to place a picture and use a comment on the other list...

N767JM IS FLYING
On July 25th N767JM flew two uneventful flights totaling 1.5 hours. The aircraft flew great! Straight as an arrow. I started on a soggy runway and elected to use flaps for the initial takeoff. Ground run was about 200 feet. Really impressive! I did have a radio problem and couldn't receive so stayed...

During the build I've removed the canopy a few times. I ended up cutting the T handle into a short L and terminated it at the sub-panel with an Adel clamp. I decided that I wouldn't jettison the canopy in-flight so my release is installed for maintenance only. I know the canopy will be coming off af...

I've been Pink Slipped
N767JM is considered Airworthy effective today. The inspection took about 2 hours and went very well. The DAR never questioned my shamefully stolen home rolled LED position lights. I had to cancel the first flight this afternoon due to a slight misfire in my Superior IO-360. I sure hope it is a scre...

Chad, After gluing the front canopy I put it back inside the finishing crate for storage. I didn't install the rear window for a long time. It really made it a lot easier finishing the interior, instrument panel and wiring with the canopy removed. I terminated the canopy release handle at the sub pa...

Brian, I'll have a look through my log and photos. The documentation is probably not that great. I did it with my 15 year old and picture taking was a little tough. I followed mostly the recommendations of others as far as spacers etc. It's not difficult to do, but you do have to keep moving once yo...

Looking good Chad. Here is mine with the plastic freshly removed. I still need to paint the aft section of the plexi. Brian: I did a leak test and very little water leaked in from the roll bar. With the rear window sikaflexed in place the roll bar acts as a gutter for water. Adding a small bead of c...

Any Earblocks?
Brad, Anyone have problems coming down. The typical Navy run was up 5,000 fpm. Play around at 25K and come back down at 5,000 fpm. We had some ATC controllers with us once and one of them sitting across from me got 3 blocks coming down. It really got nasty. The drill was they take you off oxygen, gi...

If you need some additional map pocket space, I plan on making a pocket out of material that would velcro under the seat cushions to the seat floors, and drape over the spar kick plates and be fastened with velcro to them. I had this in my AVID MK IV. It was perfect for holding maps, small flashligh...

I agree that virtually anything will work for a marker beacon antenna. I'm going to try a ball on the stick transponder antenna for that and see how it works. I'm actually gonna use the fuel vent in the wing root that the rocket guys use, and am using the pre punched fuel vent holes for a marker bea...

CJ one of our fellow panhandle builders had a custom console built. It includes a throttle quadrant, fuel tank selector (it actually drives an andair valve located in the normal place via a drive shaft) and an arm rest with a hinged top for storing maps. It's not installed yet. I'll see if I can sho...
