Hi CJ - yeah, its sad its been that long. Stupid economy :( I bought an engine that was torn apart and partially rebuilt. The case, crank, cam, and all the internal parts were sent out for overhaul and yellow tagged. All I need is bearings, gaskets, some hardware, and cylinders! I haven't talked to ...

I haven't given up
It's been a while, but it is starting to look more like a plane. Here are a few pics from the past few weeks: Wings & tail mounted https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-8UfvkqVgNsg/UlN6EnOnM6I/AAAAAAAAAqA/VwMidoFgr-E/s800/IMG_7920.jpg Fills the garage now https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-5HUxgd5vDpk/...

planes sitting around
Yes - sitting around is bad for airplanes. Mine hadn't moved in 28 years. Every piece of rubber on the plane from tires to hoses and O-rings had to be replaced. The usual problem is the camshaft inside the engine. It is mounted up high and if the oil drains off of it, it can rust. Then when the engi...

Buy a Super
The Super is nearly the same as the Sierra, but with fixed gear. Mine has 3 doors (2 front + baggage). It has just over 1000# of useful load. It is about a 125 KTAS airplane. The Sierra are about 10+ knots faster, due to the gear. There aren't many Supers around. I think only 171 or so on the regist...

Baby Beech!
Hi - I'm a regional director of the Beech Aero Club, which is the type club for these "Baby Beech" aircraft. I own and fly a Beech Super III, which is a Sport with a 200 HP engine. I have a friend who owns a 1974 Sport. It's a great plane. There is tons of info at www.beechaeroclub.org - well worth ...

2010!
I'm working my panel and will post a pic later today or tomorrow.. think you all will like it 8) As for G3X vx. AFS - you can't go wrong either way, but I'd look at the feature set carefully. AFS gives bigger screen and more IFR type features including a flight director and ARINC 429 integration wit...

Thanks Jeff - they were actually the easiest part of the canopy... less than 1 hour each. The bottom aft part is out maybe 1/4" from the fuselage, but once you go up about 4 inches they are flush and flat all along. Is that kind of typical with what other builders are getting? I'm hoping that the ai...

Also I ratttled can paint my panel. If I had to do it over I would have painted it just like the outside. MUCH more durable and scratch resistant. I was thinking of having it powder coated... if I can get a flat finish. There is a shop in town that I used for my steps and rudder pedals, but those w...

Whew - Sliding Canopy is finished... now what?
My goal was to finish the slider before it got cold and I made it! Canopy is Sika attached with only the hole for the handle. It could have gone better but I'm happy with the result. http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/5996/dcp7020.jpg http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/5554/dcp7023.jpg http://img59....

wiring
Thanks Smitty - I've completed my own homemade schematic for my 9A which I plan to use to wire it myself. I can buy the wire cheap (company store :) ) and put the connectors on. My EFIS's (EFIII?) came with harnesses and so do some other things. I am going to get the Vans drawings anyway and use the...

what electrical plans set !?!?
Vans harness is really only suited to building per the plans....BUT The Electrical plans set is very valuable. Ditto for the drawings in the Nuckols book. I have the Nuckols book (and it is now available as a free download) - but I didn't know that Vans has an "Electrical Plans Set". Can you descri...

'eh, say wha? I haven't heard of this before. Are people having to move the electric fuel pump? How many have had these problems? Every 7A or 9A will have the problem - the deisgn is such that the engine mount tube pressed on one of the nutplatest that holds the fuel pump on. Well documented proble...

Spike - that looks great! I remember that day. Don't worry, you have a LOT of work left to do  I can't remember if you are building a NW or TD, but if NW, then go ahead and move that fuel pump now. If you don't, later on you'll find out that the nutplate interfers with the engine mount :bang: A...
