Tip up canopy question

On the tip-up canopy forward skin we have those little "dog ears" that stick out and are supposed to lay smoothly on the outside of the canopy. i thinks many builders just cut them away but if you wanted to glue them to the canopy what kind of adhesive would work?? Thanks Gary

While I am thinking about it what sort of drill speed do you think is best. I have a portable drill which turns very slowly and I get pretty nice holes. This is with the regular metal drill in a practice piece of plexi. I do however get chips when the drill emerges on the opposite side. Maybe more R...

forward mount block for tip up

The forward mounting block for the canopy strut #725 had 3 holes drilled in it. The middle hole accepts the ball which in turn accepts the strut. My question is what size hole do I need for the middle hole, the hole that gets tapped to accept the ball fitting?? The plans ask for 5/16 x 18. So do I u...

Brantel, Thanks, yeah I measured from the edges and got no consistent straight line. I know the clamp marks you were referring to. I will try to measure from those and see if things line up better. Wouldn't it be great if there was a pattern you could just lay on the canopy and just cut?? Chad sorry...

Canopy weldment/C-702 skin misalignment

The tip up canopy weldment has a tubular cross member on the aft of the structure. The plans ask that you cleco the C-702 skin on and the holes at the back of the skin should fall on top of this tube. I have just put these parts together and the tube is a full 1/4 inch too far forward. Any ideas how...

Chad,
Seems to me with the excellent exposure of the "behind the panel" area, your arrangement might be the best of both worlds. Even as designed, it would be dicey to attempt to jetison the canopy in flight, don't you think??

tip up canopy release: Yes or No

I am just getting ready to tackle the canopy and I see on many of the builder web sites that the quick release for the canopy is omitted and bolts are used in its place. This would sure simplify things and free up some space behind the panel but I wonder about going away from the original design. Wo...

Chad, I never thought about that but it is neat function. The new Dynon Autopilot lists CWS as a feature and looks like an interesting package to help busting the budget. Thanks for that Gary

William, Easy fix. Seems there is a LEFT and RIGHT sender so using the other sender has solved the problem. You may recall the plans suggest a bend in the float wire about 3 inches starting at the float. Did you use this length to make your bends>>Thanks G

William, Yep that sure looks more like it. I have the QB wings and I am wondering if I have the covers switched or back to front. If you look at the forward part of the sender you have one hole at 3 o'clock. I think we both have that so something else is up. I will check it out tomorrow and let you ...

fuel sender orientation

I have the float/resistance type fuel sending units. When I install these on the circular fuel tank cover and line up the mounting holes the unit is not vertical but tilted either right or left about 20 degrees. So with the wing flat on the table the float will not track straight up and down as I wo...

inspection port/ forward upper cabin structure tip-up

For the tip up you have a skin that attaches at the firewall and extends back to the forward edge of the canopy. Once this is riveted in you can only reach this area from below. Has anyone considered putting an inspection/service opening in the skin?? I have a colleague here who has an RV6 and he wi...
