Welcome, Rob! I've got the RV7 QB, and I'm doing my unintentional best to keep to a slow-build schedule. First thing you'll probably tackle is the wings. If you're regular about it, they'll be done in no time, and you can knock out a major subkit in short order, much shorter than it takes to do the ...

Wingtips, they are finish.

All done on the wingtips, except for glassing in the Archer VOR antenna. duct tape's fine for now, just need to hold it to the tip so the nutplates don't stress it too much. Much of my time has been involving the moving of dirt for the wife's fruit trees, and a case of the flu that had me wishing fo...

Originally I had this idea of pumping it out of a micro-head irrigation sprayer on the end of a length of 1/4" tubing and pulling it down the length of the tube. But further investigation looked like more of an engineering problem and time spent wandering around Home Depot than I wanted to deal with...

Priming inside W-716 aileron push tubes

Hi all, I'm about to prime the inside of the W-716 aileron push tubes on my QB 7. Question is, is it legit to use a cylindrical brush attached to a long dowel to apply the primer instead of spraying a load of paint in and rolling the tube around? I'm using SEM self-etching primer and it tends to fla...

Back in the game. Again. Mostly.

ProSealed the trailing edge of rudder 2.0! Finally got a weekend day to mess with the icky gray goo. Now I need another weekend to finish it. http://stjohn.openbar.com/airplane Also the non-RV side project was included in the day's activities. I wonder if I can make a BMA EFIS Lite work on the Buell...

Another vote for rivet tape. It's going to be a little stronger than scotch tape, and you can re-use a strip of it a couple of times, if you offset the rivet positions. Just don't leave it on for a while. I came back to a VS after a weekend and the tape left the green stickage on the surface when I ...

That finish on the floor is actually snap-together plastic tiles from Home Despot, Traffic Master brand. I needed about 300 of them. There are other, better ones, but not cheaper, or more readily available. They come in charcoal and gray. I went for the darker ones to make spilled chips and rivets m...

Finished the new workspace late Tuesday night, RV7 QB arrived Wednesday morning. Currently inventorying all the fiddly bits. That counts as building, right?

QB. quicker if I can.

I'm in it to fly, primarily, so the faster I can get in the air short of buying one, the better. I'm also a graphics geek, and my wife programmed HUDs for NASA at Ames for a while, so this will be a platform justifying the big 'EXPERIMENTAL' banner with different homebrew flight systems (redundant t...

My 7 will be so that I can attend to my own regional aviation needs and enjoy it the whole time. Not a big fan of commercial air travel, no offense to anyone here who works for the airlines. I want light IFR, day/night VFR cross country with the speed to get me from Santa Monica to San Francisco or ...

I'm looking for a good 3D model of the RV-7, preferably in .obj format that I can bring into Houdini or Maya and virtually paint. The fun thing is, I'll be able to use HDR environments to make it as photoreal as possible before committing to a paint scheme, if any. Most days the last thing I want to...

I'm a visual effects artist at Sony Imageworks. I use Houdini, Maya, and a couple of other bits of software to make the unreal real. Or the real unreal. Basically, I have the fanboy computer dork dream job, but the price is long hours and being trapped in Los Angeles. We just finished Spider Man 3, ...

My goal is to finish the empennage kit that's been floating around in various states since summer of 2005. Yeah. Stuck on the elevators and rudders. and avoiding priming. Also order the QB Fuse/wings before the end of next month.

My house is about 1/2 mile south of KSMO. I don't have a hangar there yet, and will probably come up on the waiting list right around the time the sun goes dark, but that's my home port.

I look forward to the day when my bank account counter resets to zero after the QB purchase.

And then again for the engine

and for the panel...

I hope I don't need a new car, ever.

It's from Star Wars.

Those movies were a good chunk of the inspiration for me to become a pilot. I was an impressionable kid. I didn't know back then that they were ripping off Dam Busters, Battle of Britain, The Blue Max, and Hell's Angels.

No paint for me. Maybe a big Galactic Empire cog on the wings and fuse[/url], but that just might mark me as a complete nerd. But I can do them in vinyl, and if I decide I hate them, they can be easily removed. This is the fun part about being a computer graphics geek.. I can paint it fifty differen...

DVD?

Does it come on DVD or only VHS? I retired my VHS player sometime before '03.

I remember seeing a couple of those when they came out, but wasn't really paying attention at the time. I was helping my cousin reanimate a berkut-flavored Varieze and it was all about canards and glass at the time.
