OSH 2014

It's the week before OSH and the forum is pretty quiet. I guess everyone is out washing and waxing their aircraft. just to start some activity........ I'll be arriving Saturday morning and departing Thursday morning. I'll be camping in HBC. We are still debating how many fingers to give Jeff and his...

New HBC procedures for OSH

Fellow RVers, Now that we've ticked over into July, it's time to start thinking about Oshkosh in earnest. Actually, to be accurate, we never really stop thinking about it, but the pace quickens as it gets closer. Over the years, your faithful parking volunteers have heard some variation of the follo...

For those that go, eat plenty of beef for me. Bob, I would pick the Otter and hanging out with Rivetbangers over the night airshow any day! Night airshows are way over rated![/quote] I was originally l leaving Wednesday too, but my passenger, a fellow coworker who has never attended OSH, asked to s...

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I'm trying to find how the baggage pieces are secured to the baggage bulkhead. Getting a nutplate in there seems problematic with the corrugated pattern on the bulkhead. I have the same issue on my RV-10. What I was planning is to use is a thin strip of aluminum...

The night air show is also Wednesday evening. I think that will kill the Otter for me this year. :( Since I would have to bum a ride, I'm assuming that there is no way I would get back in time for the night air show. I'm leaving Thursday morning, so that' not an option for me either. For those that ...

Monday - Beer Fairy Tuesday - Van's Banquet Wednesday - Young Eagles Banquet Thursday - Homebuilder's Banquet, EAA Auction (I'm not 100% sure) There is also usually a RV-10 HQ dinner early in the week too, but no date has been set yet. There will be conflict any night that is chosen. The question is...

I would contact Brent Owens. He polishes 90% of his RV-8. He can clearly articulate the amount of effort to keep it looking nice. Bob Collins would be the other person I would talk to about polishing. You should be able to PM either of them on VAF. I also have their emails. If you send me an email, ...

It would be better to do it before dimpling. Easier to get the holes better aligned. But with that said, it's not impossible to do after dimpling either.

On my RV-10, I matched drilled first, then dimpled.

I have one other question, when I did my flight training I was made to believe that you must have valid charts with you while flying. I don't think I was directly told that but that is the impression I got? I realize you are suppose to have all info pertaining to your flight 14 CFR 91.103 but is th...

In each of the model there are a variety of variables and options that will effect your comfort as a tall person. The first is the seat cushion. A thinner seat cushion can gain you some head space. Not all vendors create them with the same dimensions. I've also seen the seat back angle changed sligh...

Joe, For vfr, it's a flip of the coin. They are all good. Most of the differences are typically for more advance functions used in ifr flight. They also tend to leap frog each other, so the best one this month, may be the second best next month. I've had wingx for years with no data plan. You can do...

Vans will recommend just flattening them, then use the correct dimple. You do need to watch for potential tears and/or cracks.

Trust me, you aren't the first to do this. You shouldn't have any issues. Just don't repeat the process in the same hole again.

I used proseal on my RV-10 as well as several of my friends. Several have been flying for over five years and haven't lost a NACA vent yet. :o

I too put a piece of fiberglass screen underneath the scat tube that connects the NACA vent to the panel and my overhead console.

Steve, Although you have a couple years before you have to install and/or purchase the guy, my advice is to start planning now. Granted it will take a second seat to building. But when you have some down time, in between kits, etc, start your planning. You'll have a learning curve. Doing it slowly o...

Bruce hit the nail on the head....... Two other key tips are planning and documentation. These aren't hard either. Draw your schematics in advance. I did three separate schematics to keep things simple for me. One for power, one for data, and one for audio. I used Viso, but any drawing application w...

I used Rustoleum rattle cans on the rudder pedals and the cabin cover support bar on my RV-10. It's held up for over a year so far. I imagine you will get even better results with JetFlex if the surface is appropriately prepared.
