Re: VPX

The ability to monitor current draw on a particular device is a very valuable capability to me. You can't do that with the traditional breakers and/or fuses. At least not without a whole bunch more instrumentation. You also get some functionality built in to control flap speed. You would have to pro...

Re: Oshkosh 2016 planning

Now if you want to good beer, you'll have to get it off site. But there are plenty of ways to get it on site without hassle. Bob, I must learn from your wisdom this coming Oshkosh. Last year I heard entirely too many stories of good beer purchased outside of the grounds that was needlessly abandone...

Re: Oshkosh 2016 planning

You can't buy beer outside of the event and bring it in (unless you're sneaky). I ran into a few people who tried and needed to leave their silver bullets behind. You don't have to even be sneaky. Have the welcome wagon drive you to the red barn, buy a six pack or two or three, and have the welcome...

Re: 2016 Oshkosh Black Otter Dinner

I have three competing activities on Wednesday evening. I resolved the conflict by rotating through the events that I attend. This year the Black Otter is on the agenda. I don't know my transportation situation quite yet. I'm hoping to tag a couple friends that are driving to OSH to come along. Othe...

Re: Shout out to Stark Avionics!

Mike, I'm glad that you had a positive experience. There are others that experienced the other extreme of that spectrum, including myself. Stark always seems to be the low cost provider, but you get what you pay for. I ended up purchasing my Garmin products from Aerotronics. They were only a few poi...

Re: Fourth Annual Mid-Atlantic Gathering of RV's - June 18th

I have a conflict that day. I just received an invitation to participate in the Innovation of Flight event at the Stephen Udgar-Hazey Smithsonian facility that day. I couldn't pass a chance to fly the RV-10 into Dulles. That's a bucket list item to check off. Perhaps next year?

Re: RV Choice

So there are no factory available mounts for the Continental IO 360D ?? Not as far as I know. I don't even think I've heard of a RV with a continental. You spoke earlier about resale value - putting a lycoming, or lycoming clone engine in your RV is the best way to assure high resale value. However...

Re: RV Choice

1. The RV-7 and RV-8 can use a Lycoming 360, as well as their predecessors. 2. That depends on how quickly you want to fly. It's simply your time versus your money spent. 3. Yes, but technically paying somebody to build your aircraft is not legal. It is legal to buy an used experimental, but then yo...

OSH 2015

It's time to start the annual dialogue on getting pumped up for OSH. I'll be camping in HBC again this year. I'm going to be staying a bit longer than the last few years. We'll be arriving Saturday morning and leaving the following morning. I wish I could make the Otter this year, but my night sched...

It worked really well for the most part. I did upfront to be a little closer and away from the banging doors of the port-a-johns. If I do HBC again, I would probably pick close to the facilities. This year I'm planning on parking in HBP and staying in the dorms. But that's all subject to change betw...

I guess I'm on the cheap side of solutions. I just use a furniture pad from Harbor Freight. Best $4 I spent.

I'm out.......

My wife and I are meeting my son and duaghter-in-law (they're based in S. Korea) in Hawaii the week before.

It was a tough choice. SnF with you guys or Hawaii with the family.

But I will be at OSH!

It's certainly an ego boost to fly an aircraft that you built.

Enjoy!

We marked our spot in Scholler this week at 56th and Lindbergh, same as last year, but other corner. We move in on Friday this week, staying until the day after show is over. I'll be in Hangar D during the day, unless I'm out seeing another Vendor or VP dealer. Looking forward to another great conv...
