Re: slider canopy for RV12
I doubt it would be an easy retrofit. The tip up has plenty of ventilation on the ramp with the canopy latch resting on the roll structure, at least it is on my RV-9A.

Re: Nose gear mount loose.
You can use a tapered pin to fix this issue. However, you will probably need to take the engine mount off of the firewall to be able to ream it. https://photos.smugmug.com/RV-9A-Project/Finish-Kit/Landing-Gear/i-ZhdXw7H/1/dd9d58f1/M/IMG_3246-M.jpg Somewhere on the interwebs is a page that details th...

I'll be there. Ethan (RV-10) will be there, and our friend Martin who is building an RV-10 might also be coming (he is arriving via airline and will have a vehicle). Put us down for some Prime Rib!

Retrofitting a new panel
I spent a solid month working on another RV-9A by putting in a new Advanced Flight System panel. During the course of the tear down, we found a number of flight safety critical items that needed attention. I still today have a couple of maintenance items that will get finished up next week (new tire...

Mike,
Nice job! thanks for the writeup.
Are you formation qualified now? I've been trying to learn formation, but the COVID pandemic has put that on hold. All the hardcore formation guys have smoke.

Wing tip repair job and adding leading edge landing lights
I wrote up another blog post about my recent repair job for another owner on his RV-6A. I installed some replacement wing tips for one that got crunched by a car, and added the Duckworks leading edge landing lights along with some super bright LED's. https://flyingoverthehills.wordpress.com/2020/03/...

Re: The "Abandoned & Little-Known Airfields" website
I found a treasure trove of old pictures from my late Father. His Dad, my Grandfather, was a pilot before WW2, and eventually was a Major during the war. He later flew corporate stuff and had quite an interesting life as a pilot. I used the website to figure out some of these photos and which airpor...

Re: Flaps to fuselage gap
I can't speak for the -7, but there are references on the plans (page 9 top view) of the RV-9 for leaving a nominal 1/4" gap between aileron and wing tip, and a nominal 3/16" gap between aileron and flap. The wing root fairings need a 1/8" gap between the side skin of the fuselage and the wing skin....

Fixing a Canopy (not mine!)
Sure has been quiet on the old RB forums... I've been keeping busy in my semi-retirement and I wrote up this new blog entry about my most recent project to help another RV pilot get his other airplane back in the air. https://flyingoverthehills.wordpress.com/2019/09/26/fixing-a-canopy/ It's not an R...

2018 Flying Stats
Another year, another blog post about my year of flying . Not as much as previous years, but I'm officially up to 634+ hours. The New Year's RV gathering at Lake Havasu got canceled due to high winds here, so I still haven't gotten airborne in 2019. I'm hoping to remedy that this weekend, even thoug...

I don't even give it a second thought about which hand is on the stick. I'm using my left hand (non-dominant) on the stick, and with the right hand on the throttle and it seems natural. These airplanes trim out very nicely, so it is mostly hands off flying anyway. You are only moving the stick a sma...

Re: Planning a 2019 US tour. Anyone up for a visitor?
CJ, I grew up in Long Beach, and learned to fly at KLGB. The Queen Mary is fun to visit. Not the best hotel, but the lounge at the front of the ship is a very cool place to have a cocktail. You'll have to make the trek over to Catalina Island. It should have a nice fresh new runway by summer. I'm ba...

CJ,
I hope you hit my corner of the US. Lot's of good beer in San Diego! We can certainly provide a bed.

Re: More non-annual maintenance
All back together last weekend after a marathon session reinstalling the autopilot servo. It was easier to install the first time when the wing skins were still off. I got back a "remanufactured" servo, so I have no idea why the original one just completely locked up. I'll probably never know. Getti...
