Now that I finally figured out how to post pictures (thanks for the help, guys!) I guess it's time to post something here. I thought I should keep it RV related. This was taken last March, very proud of my newly finished Rudder. Bruce Swayze RV-7A Wings under construction! Portland, Oregon http://im...

Here's another update pic of my tank, now part of my finished left wing! This wing is now in the storage cradle, and I'm working on my right tank.

Thanks, Carl, and Spike for the help! Here's a few shots of my project, starting with my finished rudder about a year ago, and more recently, my son Daniel helping me rivet the top skins on my left wing. Man, it's good to see that some of us are actually working on RV stuff. Not that I don't have my share of honey-do stuff to keep me occupied. But this weekend, I managed to get over 11 hours in on the project: drilled my z-brackets for the right wing, riveted the nutplates on, bolted the z-brackets ...

Welcome, Rob, I know how you feel. I started on my RV-7A almost exactly a year ago, and I still feel like a newbie at times. But I have my empennage finished, and my wings (standard build) are nearing completion. I ordered my fuse kit a few days ago, just in time to beat the price increase. Just han...

Ian, you and I are almost at the exact same place. I just finished doing my z-brackets for my right tank, too. I used one nutplate for drilling all the holes, and ruined another one accidentally. When I was finished, I think I have 2 left over to spare.

[quote="Brantel"]Don't you hate it when you are about to finish the last rivet on the rear deck where the HS mounts when all of a sudden you drop your heavy bucking bar! Hey Brantel... I know exactly how you feel. I did the same thing when riveting my left wing's leading edge together. Had it in the...

I'm with Don. I'm so focused on getting my RV-7A finished and flying that I haven't even thought of something else. But I voted for the Rocket on a whim. Faster, even more exciting, why not?

Ian,
That's great! I probably went to a lot more trouble than I needed to then. Let us all know how it turns out. Did you get your tank finished?

Ian - Check for twist?

Ian, I looked at your web site and all your pictures. I couldn't help but notice that you don't seem to have the trailing edge of the wing secured in your wing stand. Did you hang plumb bobs and check for twist? Are you concerned about that before riveting the skins on? Or am I missing something? Ju...

No leaks!!!

Hey Guys... Great news. The balloon held full for over 3 days, so I can officially declare one tank finished, with NO LEAKS! Yippee! One down, one to go. Special thanks to Mike B. for emailing me offlist and answering some questions. Thanks, Mike! I'd post a picture here if I could figure out how. B...

Looks like a bench sander, similar to the following: I picked up a used one of these and it has been a great tool to have. Whenever you need to eat some aluminum in a hurry, it does a great job. Thanks, Mike! I have a similar Craftsman bench sander, but it has an 8" disk and the belt is 4" wide. By...

[quote="smittysrv"]I used my Unibit in my drill press and smoothed everything off with my belt sander.

How did you get a belt from a belt sander inside the hole?

Tank end rib hole - how big?

I'm at that point in my tank construction where I need to break out the fly-cutter for the first time and cut the big holes in the inboard end ribs for the reinforcing ring and the access cover plate. I've studied the plans and drawing 16A over and over and I can't find anything that indicates how b...
