CJ -

Cool idea on the attachment points. Cargo Pod, fuel tank pod, small tactical missile to clear out the slow spam cans in front of you in the pattern ;-)

CJ, My take on the sealant issue is its main day to day purpose is to keep CO out of the cockpit. I am totally with you in the thinking tank sealant is good enough for that job. If a fire did break out during cruise I would want it to stay out of the cabin for as long as possible. For the 60 bucks i...

I found a source for Flame Master 1900 that sells it in pint and 1/2 pint quantities. My biggest concern with proseal is it isn't rated for that high of temperature - 275 degrees F max. The firewall sealant is rated for a flash temperature of 2000 degrees for 15 minutes. If anyone is interested, Sea...

Hey CJ- I am about 1 week behind you now....have you put any thought into the putting the firewall sealant on between the firewall and the side/bottom skins before you rivet everything together? I think it would be damn near impossible seal the side skins after the fact, since the side firewall stif...

Chad- Thanks for pointing out the rivet above the rear spar that should be flush. I am doing the final prep for my fuselage now before I put it back together, so this came at the perfect time. Just be sure to keep ahead of me for the rest of the build by a month or two so I don't have to worry about...

Chad,
Makes perfect sense to me. Its great to start seeing all these panels with no steam in them! (Wait, does the LRI count as steam? Me thinks it does!).

Chad,

Whats left in your panel if you have an electrical failure? Just the 295? I know the ADI has a battery backup option, but not sure if the ADI Pilots do.

Other than that, I dig your panel. You got the GPS right in front of you and you're definitely gonna spend a heck of a lot less than I will!

CJ- Looking good! I did this just a few weeks ago. For me, it was rewarding to actually get something assembled and out of the way in the midst of the fuse being upside down and a bazillion things needing to be done before the flip! Pedals look great in au natural. I get free powder coating, so mine...

Ian, I used a 3/4" hole for the Van's conduit. I had no issues installing the conduit. Just stretch the conduit while installing it and it will be somewhat easy to get through each hole. Once my conduit was installed, I put some proseal between the ribs and the conduit to keep the two from chaffing....

When it came to buying a spraygun, I didn't know diddly. I decided to burn $40 on a on-sale HVLP from harbor freight. The first attempt wasn't pretty (can you say too thick?), but since then I have used it about 10-15 times to prime through to center section fuselage and the thing keeps going strong...

Vince, I consider myself somewhat of an expert on the trim tab, as it took me 4 tries to get it right! On the first three, I tried the bending of the tabs trick. It turned out OK, but never great. On the 4th try, cut off the tabs on the trim tab skin I made some "riblets" to go in the ends. I was so...

As a follow up, my original solution of twisting the longeron a little to make it line up wasn't the fix I needed. The twist cause the longerons not to be parallel with each other when a ruler was put between the two. i.e... they looked like they were pigeon-toed. I worried about this propagating to...

Chad,
Thanks for taking a look at your fuse. After taking a closer look, my longeron was slightly twisted causing it to creep up. Once I clamped it down, it turned out to be flush.

Sometimes you gotta cry for help before you figure it out 5 seconds later ;-)

Longeron Fit?

Today I fit the longerons to the aft fuselage on my -7. The instructions tell you to align top of the longerons with the top of the side skins - easy enough. However, where the longeron passes over the F-711 bulkhead, the bulkhead interferes and makes the best alignment I can get about 1/32". To ill...

I did the same thing on my HS. I called up Van's and they told me just to make another hole in the middle and not do anything with the hole that had edge distance issues.

Here is a link on my builders log to what I did:
