Looks like Whelen cable to me...

That looks like the Whelen stuff I bought from ACS - I think Strobes 'n More sells Whelen also, so that might be the cable you have. You'll want twisted wires with a solid shield to keep radiated noise down, so unless MS27500 has those characteristics I'd stay with what you have. It may look cheesy ...

Re: My RV-7 G3X Installation

Thermos, when are you coming down to help me noodle through this mess... Whenever you want...that's why I brought you the Bundy! Just one note...your G3X autopilot won't work without an AHRS, so if you want that auto-level blue button to be your fallback it might be best to consider that...

I edge-rolled very slightly the aft edges of my tanks and leading edges, and they snugged down very nicely when installed. But if I hadn't, it probably would have looked fine. I wouldn't stress about it.

You guys are tempting me with those pictures of canopies attached with Sikaflex!

I had forgotten about the brushless motor part - you'll be fine!

Hey John, You were laying in bed talking to Vlad *on the phone* right? Just checking... :P If you follow good practice and use an insulating grommet on the phone and mic jacks, and you use shielded, twisted wires for hooking them up, I think you'd be ok WRT noise from the pump. And if that didn't wo...

Danger, Will Robinson!

I certainly don't want to downplay Anti Splat Aero, Alan certainly has come up with some great products and he's done some great analysis of A-model nose gear problems. Even though I'm not a mechanical engineer, I picked up enough about structures from past work in the certified airplane world to ma...

I've fielded some questions about the condition of the grass runway at 1P1 after the rain we've received in New England this week. I spoke to the airport manager on Wednesday and he thought the field was in pretty good shape. I've also spoken with family in Plymouth this morning and they've received...

2nd Annual 1P1 Summer Fly-In, June 15

Hi all, My wife and I are sponsoring our second annual June fly-in at the Plymouth NH airport (1P1) on Saturday, 15 June. Last year's fly-in was small but very enjoyable, we had three RVs, a Piper Arrow, a Piper Pacer and a J-3 Cub. 1P1 is 2300'x90' and the turf is generally in very good condition d...

Robert,

I thought about not dimpling the side/bottom skins and firewall until after drilling the cowling hinge, but most everyone I talked went ahead and dimpled and had no problems match-drilling the hinge plates later on.

Hope this helps,

Dave

A big week

Last week was a big one for us. My employer (Uncle Sugar's Air Force) shut down on Tuesday due to a snow storm, so I had some time to send in the finish kit order. Gotta avoid the April cost increases at Van's, don't you know. Over the weekend, it was barely warm enough to get outside and construct ...

Wren

I was at the Concord NH airport a few weeks ago and came across an airplane with the same mod - http://www.mightyrv.com/EmailPics/Wren%202.JPG This airplane also has a completely different wing with leading edge cuffs and full-span slotted flaperons - http://www.mightyrv.com/EmailPics/Wren%201.JPG I...

CJ, I'm bringing some of the test parts I made to your shindig tonight. Something interesting I found is that Cleaveland dimple dies actually make a wider dimple than my old Avery dies...go figure. I could probably get by with a few extra clicks deeper than 0.005" had I used the Avery dies, but the ...

Hangars at Hanscom

Antony, One of my colleagues at work mentioned recently that the hangar next to his at Hanscom is vacant. Might be a possibility...let me know if you'd like to contact him. The downside is having to deal with the bureaucratic heartache from Massport...but that's another issue! Also, there might be s...

Fuse longeron countersinking

Fellow RBers, I'm riveting together the fuselage canoe, and have discovered that I under-countersunk the longerons. As I've done up to now, I went with Van's "a few clicks below flush" guidance to make a test rivet set around 0.005" below flush in the longeron countersinks, but now that everything's...

Hi Joe,

Nail 'em on now...it's significantly easier when they're in the jig or on the wing stands. I don't know how you'd rivet those skins on when the wings are on the fuse.

Hope this helps,

Fall Foliage and Chili Fly-In at 1P1

Hello fellow Rivetbangers, We had a great time burning burgers at Plymouth NH (1P1) over the summer, so we're gonna cook up a pot of chili on the afternoon of Saturday, 22 September for another fly-in. We have an ok from the airport for camping, so bring warm gear if you plan to stay on the field - ...
