Re: Black Otter 2019!

This will be my 8th Oshkosh, 7th in my RV-7 and 6th consecutive! I don't recall if I went to The Black Otter my first year - I drove in from Chicago and only spent one night (CJ's tent in Camp Scholler :o ). Let's make it Tuesday. Who's got rides, and how many can you squeeze in? Right now for atten...

Black Otter 2019!

Wow, how did Oshkosh sneak up on me so quickly this year???

Who's in for Black Otter 2019? What day works best? I rather liked Tuesday last year. Only downside is <not> missing out on the Van's banquet.

Thoughts?

Re: Bell Tailwheel axle bolt

Is this what you're looking for? https://www.flyboyaccessories.com/product-p/1111.htm You can also go about the DIY method....I think it's an AN4 bolt....you'll have to take it off and measure the diameter and length, then go to Aircraft Spruce (or somewhere that sells AN hardware locally) and buy a...

Re: Drilling stainless firewall *HELP*

What sort of drill are you using? I don't recall anything special about drilling SS.....my drill bits are from Avery, and I used BoeLube , however, any cutting oil should work? My thought is you might be turning the drill bit too fast. A slower speed drill with light pressure applied to the bit (let...

Re: Newbie with Pneumatic Squeezer Woes

When I went to a builders class wayyyyy back in 2005, a fellow builder faced the same dilemma as you - sticker shock over the pneumatic squeezer. Our teacher echoed what Bruce said - don't try to save money on good tools. Specifically the pneumatic squeezer, as it is one of the more complicated tool...

Re: New owner coming up on Annual !!

Tony, I used a clunky 18V DeWalt for my first couple of annuals....it was heavy and the battery needed to be charged daily. By the time I removed all of the screws for the seat pan, my arm was so tired I went home for the day! the B&D lightweight drill have a built in clutch which allows you to not ...

Re: New owner coming up on Annual !!

Hi Tony, Welcome to Rivetbangers! There aren't that many consumables I go through, so your list is relatively complete. I have electronic ignition, so every annual I swap out the auto-plugs due to their low cost. I also have the K&N filter oil/cleaner to recharge the air filter. The one thing I boug...

Re: Black Otter 2018!

Let's do the same as we've done in years past. Meet your driver at 4pm for a 430 departure. The otter does not take reservations. They do, however, take meat reservations. So if you like your prime rib a certain way, give them a call. Don Miller has 2 spots in his car. He's in Sleepy Hollow. Painles...

Unfortunately I have been too busy to maintain the site. I made it as a hobby, and it doesn't provide me any revenue, so it's probably going the way of the other APRS sites.

Black Otter 2018!

It's never too early to start planning the Black Otter feast for this years Oshkosh. We typically host this event on Wednesday evening. However, there seems to be more disinterest in Van's banquet this year more than ever, especially with them upping the price. I propose we have our dinner on Tuesda...

Re: Bonderite (alodine) or not?

I agree 100% with Bruce. I alumiprepped and alodined most of my empennage, but gave up when it came to the wing kit. My secret to success was: Scuff with scotchbrite Clean with water mixed with dawn dish soap. Quick scrub with acetone soaked towel (helps absorb any water not already dried, and any o...

Ads-b is also.... Ads-b'ing as you can see some traffic down by Green Bay. This is sitting on the ground in front of my hangar. Did the updates on the Echo so I should be good to go. Only thing I'm not seeing are metars. I'm assuming I won't see them on the ground?? Test flight tomorrow hopefully. ...

Re: Panel Upgrade

Painless,

Here are the settings I used:

115,200bps was the correct speed for my setup
Image

On the serial port combiner (SBC)setting, 38400 is the correct baud to talk to the uAvionix box.
