+1. There's enough wiggle room on the fit of those tabs that you shouldn't have any problems drilling and dimpling these parts separately.

Ellen and I are westbound on I-90 between Syracuse and Buffalo. We're gonna be up before the sun tomorrow so we can sneak around Chicago before rush hour. :o I didn't get quite as far on the project as I wanted to before we left. But I only have one thing left to do before pulling the canoe apart fo...

Hope I'm not too late for last call!

Ellen and I will definitely be at the Otter on Wednesday. We're gonna aim for beer and brats on Monday as well, but that will depend on how far we make it from Boston on Sunday.

Excellent list, John....muchos gracias!! I saw in your list that you fitted the cover support angles that get riveted to the F-7101 gussets, and that you used Dan Checkoway's site as a reference. I was gonna put those off 'til later but it certainly makes sense to do them now if it's not too painful...

Scott, Fitting the F-7114 is one of the to-do things on my "laundry list" post, I just started working on them last night. I have temporary hardware store bolts holding the F-704 bulkheads together, threads forward, and the -7114 gusset is angled such that the bolt will have to be removed or at leas...

Thanks for the gouge, guys. I hadn't considered the conduit interference, so I laid out a couple extra fuse holes lined up with the wing conduit.

Bruce, I spent a bunch of time today going through the plans as you suggested...I added a half-page of things to my to-do list!

Laundry list?

Hello all! So I'm finally at the point in the fuselage where the instructions call for completion of a "laundry list" of things to do before disassembling for debur/dimple/priming/riveting. I have my own punch list of things to complete, but is there a specific "list" I'm missing somewhere in the pl...

I think it's bad news for us builders in the Northeast. Mattituck is an easy day's drive/ferry ride from Boston, and the prospect of being able to get a quality product with outstanding service in my own back yard (in RV terms) was the major factor in my plan to buy a Mattituck engine.

9 June fly-in at 1P1 - Plymouth NH

Hi all, My wife and I are sponsoring a very informal RV fly-in at the Plymouth NH airport (1P1) on 9 June somewhere around noon. No events, seminars or anything formal planned...just an excuse to share lunch at one of our favorite New England grass strips with friends and fellow RVators. 1P1 is 2300...

John, I didn't know you were using the Biotherm. If at least two of us use it, it must be ok, right? It looks like the stuff I'll use for the firewall penetrations and the oil filter cutout.

Firewall gap sealant alternatives?

Is anybody using something other than the CS-1900 stuff that Vans sells? From what I've seen, it's pretty goopy and difficult to use. The guys who sell stainless steel versions of Vans' heater boxes sell this stuff called Biotherm 100... http://www.planeinnovations.com/firewallkits.html It's silicon...

If you're concerned about the nut loosening and allowing the tab to clock, you could always fabricate a tab with some locking "ears" that go around the Adel clamp. :?:

No worries Mark, that's a cheap mistake and Van's has a huge stock of replacement trim tab parts. Ask me how I know!

By the way, I've had one of your RV-7 silhouette stickers on the rear window of my car for two years...it's holding up really well!

Thanks guys. Chad, the pics help a lot! I bent up a test piece last night after looking at the pics and also discussing the problem with Captain John. He ended up putting a joggle on the gusset's lower edge to get it over the weldment, and I think I'm going to do the same thing. Just one bend won't ...

Fitting the F-684 gussets...

Hi all, I'm braining out how to fit the F-684 gussets to the lower firewall weldments and aux longerons. I fabbed the first one according to plan, double-checked my measurements and cuts, and am finding out that the cutouts and bend lines aren't lining up the way they drawings indicate. Here's a pic...

Longeron trimming?

Hi all, I'm getting ready to fit the firewall on my fuse, and one of the last tasks before I do is to trim the forward end of the longerons - the ones I spent so much time measuring and cutting to a gnat's ass a few months ago. :bang: The instructions call for trimming them back to 3/4" behind the f...
