Black Otter 2018!
It's never too early to start planning the Black Otter feast for this years Oshkosh. We typically host this event on Wednesday evening. However, there seems to be more disinterest in Van's banquet this year more than ever, especially with them upping the price. I propose we have our dinner on Tuesda...

Re: Bonderite (alodine) or not?
I agree 100% with Bruce. I alumiprepped and alodined most of my empennage, but gave up when it came to the wing kit. My secret to success was: Scuff with scotchbrite Clean with water mixed with dawn dish soap. Quick scrub with acetone soaked towel (helps absorb any water not already dried, and any o...

Ads-b is also.... Ads-b'ing as you can see some traffic down by Green Bay. This is sitting on the ground in front of my hangar. Did the updates on the Echo so I should be good to go. Only thing I'm not seeing are metars. I'm assuming I won't see them on the ground?? Test flight tomorrow hopefully. ...

Painless,
Here are the settings I used:
115,200bps was the correct speed for my setup
On the serial port combiner (SBC)setting, 38400 is the correct baud to talk to the uAvionix box.

Re: Panel Upgrade
I have the same magnetometer, and can confirm it does not get hot and doesn't need any cooling. I would be concerned using just a couple of zip ties and perhaps vibrations causing the magnetometer to slightly move. My official recommendation as an EAA Technical Counselor and all around genius is to ...

Re: Hello I'm new
I suppose it depends on what you mean by professional builds. As Bob stated, 51% of the work must be completed by a amateur builder. So say the kit Van's sells is roughly 25% completed by the factory, A professional can assist up to 24% of the work, which means the amateur can complete the remaining...

Unfortunately not. The breadboard is still on my work desk, so it will eventually make it back to the top of the list.

Wait. Mike works??? It's been a tough week getting re-acclimated to work. I've spent nearly all week planning a business trip to Barcelona for a conference, then heading off to Munich for Oktoberfest. I seriously don't get paid enough for this form of torture! Jeez, and just before that, ...

Man...what a tough life you are living. :D Don't forget I am using my work connection to get some sweet seats to the Nationals game! The toughest part of my weekend will be making sure I don't...

Saturday is definitely looking precarious with the storms in Northern OH/IL, but I think eventually I should be able to make it to Osh. Worst case I will blast off first thing Sunday.

I am heading up to Osh on Saturday via Cleveland on a Friday night stopover. My plan is to depart Thursday AM. Current plans are as follows: 1) Sunday night beer share 2) Monday Beer Social 3) Wednesday Black Otter I am going to skip out on the Van's banquet. I only went to one of them a few years a...

Re: Info needed for engine purchase
Dave, I stalked the forums religiously until I found my engine. I was able to find a great deal on a brand-new IO-360, but the only caveat was it was a vertical sump. It took a little work, but it all came together in the end. If you're going the new route, as Bruce inferred, the best new engine dea...

Re: Interior/seat choices
Hi Joe, I went the cheap route and used Van's foam and got them locally covered in fabric. The Van's foam has a lot to be desired - it definitely isn't the most comfortable option, and my back always looks forward to getting out of the plane after a few hour trip. I tried the Oregon Aero seats at Su...
