Sierra Vista, AZ trip
Veteran's Day gave me and the wife both a 3 day weekend. We did a belated 28th Wedding anniversary getaway to southeast Arizona for some sight seeing. Took off early Friday morning to clear skies and were landed in Sierra Vista, AZ at FHU Fort Huachuca-Libby Airfield. On the sectional it looks prett...
Re: RV9A WV
Not much you can do after riveting to fix the oil-canning. The flanges on the ribs have to be perfectly at 90 degrees, and trying to bend them after the fact is hopeless. Build on! The fuselage will be a fun time, but it will fill up your shop space pretty quickly.

AOPA Fly In at Prescott, AZ
My wife and I spent an enjoyable day flying out to Arizona to the AOPA Fly In at Prescott. We got up later than I was planning, but still were in the air before 9am and got to the show before 11am. Smooth air the whole way out, but as we got near Prescott the clouds were just starting to build. The ...

NY! Jeez, that's a bit out of my area. Winter is probably not the best time for me to fly out there.

Finding a good Paint Shop
How do you find a good paint shop? I don't even know where to start with what to look for besides cost, reputation, and availability. My paint scheme design is nearing completion and it is probably time for me to get a shop lined up. I'm in SoCal area, so close is good, but I'm willing to look furth...

Re: ELT Antenna Placement
The ELT may just save a live. Maybe yours? Why not just follow the manufacturer's recommendations for where to mount it (like on the outside of the fuselage)?

Re: Boost pump
Here is the filter info. Flow Ezy filter part #3-AN6-74 with 8286-02 element. www.flowezyfilters.com/pdfs/MotorSport.pdf Look for the 3000 series. 74 micron filter. Tell them it is for an "off-road" vehicle. I think it is about 3/8" longer than the EFII set up with the brass adapters. It is a...

Re: Boost pump
I'm really happy with the EFII pump. The only issues so far were the leaky washers, which were fixed for free by Robert Paisley at his shop at Cable Airport in Upland, CA. The original version which I bought used metal crush washers. The later versions are all upgraded to metal washers with rubber o...

Re: VPX
I have the VP-X sport. I should have probably gone with the pro for more circuits and better redundancy. I still have a couple of circuits available, but if I put in more equipment to go IFR capable, I would need to upgrade (second EFIS, Pitot heat, dual COM, IFR GPS, etc.). For now I'm happily flyi...

CJ, the plane will do fine in the heat. I've had mine flying at 112F in Arizona. Thankfully, we got out of there before the high temp of 119F hit! Helps to find some shade for parking.

Mike, thanks for the list! It will be great to meet up with the rest of the RB crowd. I will plan on going to the Black Otter. I will also come prepared with some local San Diego beers. CJ, hope you like hot weather. Vegas in the summer can be pretty warm. Keep heading west and come on out to the Pa...

Oshkosh 2016 planning
I've never been to Oshkosh Airventure, and this year I plan on correcting that omission. What do I need to bring for Homebuilt camping? Tent, sleeping bag, food, drinks, folding chair, etc. When is the best time to show up? Saturday or Sunday? Coming across the US from San Diego, so I will probably ...

3rd Annual Ramona RV Fly In
Turn out was pretty good considering that there was also a West Coast RV formation clinic going on in NorCal. The weather forecast earlier in the week said chance of rain, but that never seems to pan out here. It was a bit breezy, and a Citabria had a bad day crashing nearby just before the event. M...
