Do ya really need one?

I would save my money and not get a band saw. I don't have one, and have only needed one once thus far - for trimming control stick brackets. Most everything can be done with a cut off wheel in a die grinder or a hacksaw bwith a good blade. For me, my shop space is too valuable to have a band saw si...

After shopping for a heated pitot, I decided to go with the Dynon heated pitot with build in AOA probe. The thing is a piece of art and fits perfectly with the gretz pitot mast. My only regret is getting the gretz pitot mast, because it is way way way overpriced. For 1/2 of the cost, I should of gon...

Ian- The heated pitot is kind of a waste, especially if you aren't going to be doing IFR. The only way your pitot will get frozen is if you are flying through visible moisture when the air temp is below freezing. Not a condition that any rv should fly though anytime! I put a heated on mine because o...

Ian,

I know Paul Dye put on on his RV-8 without incident. Here is the link to the "other" forum discussion on the pitot:

Kelly, I think a 4'x8' table would be overkill. I am almost through the fuselage and have gotton by fantastically with the EAA standard workbench dimensions of 2' x 5' (http://www.eaa1000.av.org/technicl/worktabl/worktabl.htm). Actually, my bench is 30" x 66" because I put a 3" overhang around the t...

CJ-

Don't let Chad get away with the vacation excuse. I am going away for the next 2 weeks to Germany for Oktoberfest (6th consecutive year). The only thing that will keep me from getting in on the 210 group buy would be if I need a liver transplant when I get back!

Brad, <RANT> I usually get my parts in 2 days from Van's - USPS is the cheapest and fastest way to get the smaller parts (i think < 3 feet). Now, granted the lower longeron was like 5' long, so they needed to UPS ground it, making it more like 7 days. However, Van's didn't ship the item until over a...

Without a doubt, the biggest time saver EVER is..... NOT MESSING UP A PART. I screwed up my lower longeron over the July 4th weekend. I didn't get the replacement until July 25th! If I would of measured everything out, I would of seen that the dimensions Van's gave were wrong and saved myself 2 week...

Bret,

I amended my web log with a PDF of my scanned instructions. The link to the PDF is here: http://rvplane.com/pdf/TruTrak_PitchServo.pdf . It has the 2.8" dimension.

I did mine per plans - but there is a trick since the plans are for a -6, and the -7/9's are slightly different. All the details for the -7/9 install can be found here:

Ian,

Why not just replace the single pressure sensor with a differential sensor (AOA pressure vs Pitot)? Then you got everything you need w/o h/w changes. Sweet design!

any particular reason you're going with a roll-your-own AOA instead of using the AOA display built into the AFS EFIS? Ian- Two reasons really why I am rolling my own - the first is cost and complexity. If I went the AFS route, I would need to buy their $800 AOA option kit, plus plumb two more tubes...

Ahh...the good old primer wars. The thing is, there hasn't been any extensive scientific study on how well spray can primers hold up to the elements over a period of time. I have heard of people leaving their parts outside with GBP988 for years in harsh conditions without even the hint of corrosion....

CJ, My take on the sealant issue is its main day to day purpose is to keep CO out of the cockpit. I am totally with you in the thinking tank sealant is good enough for that job. If a fire did break out during cruise I would want it to stay out of the cabin for as long as possible. For the 60 bucks i...
