You have to cut a fair amount away there ... on the -8 it is depicted somewhere on the plans. Mine was 3/4" + on the top and bottom...

Yeah ... all things considered, that is a great place to do it!

I managed to do mine on one of the stiffener holes in the fuel tank skin!

Actually, if that is one of the fairing attach holes you might be OK. You can enlarge and smooth out the hole, then just put a nutplate behind it for the fairing attach - no one will ever know.

I have a 200 in the C-170 and am thinking about upgrading just because of the display. I fly a lot in the dark - early AM and late evening, and I have to use a flashlight to see the radio.
I will probably order one for the RV ... I might just use it in the 170 until the -8 is done!

Is it the central AC for the house? My 15+ y/o system died in the same situation a few years ago; it turns out it was this huge capacitor that is mounted in the outside unit. Cost like 150-200$. Got another 5 years out of the unit. You're in a tough spot, being a heat wave, after hours, and with tho...

I pulled the conduit through 3/4" holes; it was a huge pain, even when I warmed and stretched the conduit. The only thing is, you only (hopefully!) have to do it once on each wing.
On the second wing I enlarged 75% of the holes a little to allow it to pass through better.
