Welcome Jimmy! When I joined EAA 1989 I did not have a PPL and I was not able to start on PPL for three years. Since then I obtained a PPL, in 1993, Sttarted building an RV-6A which is now flying since 5/2009 but lost my medical in 2004. Get your license first, then carefully decide what type of air...

HAPPY NEW YEAR RB'S! We drove to Fargo on 12/31/11 for New Year's Eve celebration with a couple we started celebrating New Year's Eve with in 1971. The weather was lousy driving up rain and snow mixed all the way. They were preducting 40 Mph winds with gusts to 60 Mph so I was very happy to be drivi...

I am sure glad I built an RV-6A because it only had 12000 rivets and my wings and fuselage were quick build so that helped me skip a few more. It did take me a few more days to finish it though :bang: However flying around in it for three years makes a lot of that worth the wait. Remember persistanc...

How does Sikaflex react to changing temperatures? A friend of mine had his canopy all cut and clecoed to the frame of his RV-6A and left it an unheated hanger here in Minnesota. In fact the same Hanger where my airplane has been since 2008. Anyhow he went to Texas come December like all the smarter ...

Brian, The hinge method is beautiful for you but not all of us as good as you at that. In reality it may be the easiest and cheapist way to have removable tips. I am a firm believer in not riveting on the wing tips and I even wonder about riveting on the elevator tips! I don't know of a good reason ...

My canopy was in the box for several years even after it was cut and fitted. It is a very safe place and I found there were a lot of things to do after the canopy was cut anf fit and riveted the slider frame. It was also a place to safely store the wind screen until I was ready to install it permant...

I used the 6-32 screws and nut plates for my wing tips. I have had them off twice already. Once was to put the wingtip nav, strobe and tail light combo on each. Anoter time was to move my OAT probe to the right wing tip because I was getting engine heat where I had located it in NACA Duct. My Wing t...

If you can acquire a used pneumatic squezzer at a fair price, go for it. Depending upon the age of the pneumatic it should be half price of a new one or less. Make sure it works before buying it. You will find it a worth while investment. I have a used one and am keeping it for maintenance and or mo...

I purchased my Lord Mounts from Vans as best I can remember at a cost around $400 and that was before 12/11/2005 when I hung my engine. They aren't cheap and I have a Lyc O-320 160 HP. Brian and Chad have O-360's.
