Good show. Maybe the "ultimate" application will eventually have a RV "how-to" section that requires every post in the section to have a Van's Kit part number associated with it. That way as the posts(archive) grows you could wade(search) thru the chit-chat and get right to a specific answer.

that sounds like a great idea. Just imagine  'hmm.....I'm having probs with hs604. Maybe someone else had the same problem.' comes to page, types in hs604 and, well, what do you know. There is the part and exactly the same problem I am having and there is the fix.

:good job:

I will toss one back with ya!

The HS-404 is actually the part name. Basically there WOULD be an HS-604 IF we needed a different nose rib for the -6 (when it was designed) than we do for the -4. They borrowed the nose rib from the -4 for the -6, hence no need to make a new part. Kinda like Adam's rib for Eve!

What I am saying is, the numbering stands for:

the assembly-airframe and 2 digit part number
ie.
HS (horiz. stab.) - 4 (for RV-4) 04 (for part 04 of the assembly)

Learning to speak Van Grunsvenese!

Hmmm. It has been my opinion, or at least purpose, that the forums that are setup for each individual model or RV would be for specific building issues and questions regarding that model. Currently I would think that the search option of the bbs would easily handle your requirements. If someone is having specific questions concerning a part I would think that they would include it in their posts. You can then just search on the part number. Try it. Search on "hs604" and youll find that this thread will be returned in the results. It will even highlight everything that matched your search in the indivual posts.

The only thing that I can think off to ensure this works is to make sure users supply the part number they are dealing with. I would think though that should be easy enough. If they forget we will just ask them what part they are referring to.

Not trying to poopoo the idea guys, I'm just trying to avoid hacking up the software too much in case I want to take an upgrade later.

Thoughts?
