Spike et al:
Does anyone think that it would be great to have a section devoted to deals that they have found? I am looking at pricing on various avionics and systems components and it would be nice to know if there are any deals out there.
For example, I own a Lowrance Airmap 100 on which the database can no longer be updated. Recently I discovered a vendor, Airplanegear.com who has great pricing on the newer Lowrance units and will work around the RMA process. Presto, a new handheld for not a lot of cash. Another example, a few weeks ago I participated in the Crow Harness seatbelt volume pricing, and ended up with a set of 5 point harnesses with rotary camlocks for $200. It sure would be nice to save some cash on other items.
So what do you say Spike/guys? Should there be a section for deals?

I say it sounds like the Crow Harness deal is one I should have loked into!
Tell me, Antony... do you think we need another forum to handle this kinda stuff specifically? I mean, we already have a vendor experiences section that we can toss that stuff into.
I dunno... maybe others feel differently?
Anyone?

That would be where I would have you put it. One of the things I don't want to have is lots of forums. I find some of the other sites distracting because of having way to many forums from which to look through. Thanx for the input though.

Vendor experience the right place?
Okay, if that's what you think.
I viewed the vendor experience forum as a place for "cheers and jeers."

Actually, thinking on it a bit more, it might make sense to put that kind of thing in the forum that applies to the widget which you purchased. IE a good deal on a tool goes in the workshop & tools forum, avionics into the avionics forum, etc.

but . . .
The only trouble with that is you have to look all over the place for the deals. I would not have thought of buying my seatbelts at this stage had I not happened upon the deal. The same goes for other parts. I may not be ready for them yet, but if I see a good deal I am more likely to make the purchase.

Antony, true... true.
Likewise, I wouldn't have purchased my seat heaters either for not the same. This is an example of "group buys", and is this sort of thing you are talking about?
I think it is a matter of how the information is located via accessing the site. I don't ever drill down through the forum directory. I do searches by age. If everyone checked in from time to time this way, they wouldn't miss a thread like that on a good deal.
You can search new threads by either having a username on the BBS or even remaining anonymous.
On the other hand, if we did have a deals section and included group buys in it, how often would it get used? If it were a regularly occurring topic with different items on a regular basis, it would be worthwhile. On the other hand, it also would be another "job" for someone (probably Spike) to do. It would certainly attract individuals to the site, though!
Just fodder for thought...
