Soooo Slooowww..

Post by Wicked Stick »

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed how slow/long it takes to change from page to page... Even worse is how long it takes to load the gallery pages.

Is it time to clean house ? or is it that the bandwidth is getting choked ?

Just wondering.

This is just a guess but I'm guessing the site is hosted at Go Daddy. At least that is what DIG shows. I had a clients whose site was down for 3 days this past week at Go Daddy. Go Daddy made some DNS changes and screwed it up. I do believe Go Daddy is having issues this week. Hope this site doesn't go down for any length of time! :o I'd be lost.

John is right, we are hosted on a V-server at Go-Daddy. We were going to go colo but godaddy priced themselves very competatively. I took off work on Friday and have a regular dialup at work, so it doesn't look any different to me. How are things for you guys, better, or still really slow? Let me know and Ill look into it.

I waited on average about 20 to 30 seconds to get my gallery page to view.

It usually only takes less than 4 or 5 seconds..

It is still pretty slow. I'm not sure what is going on. I show a fraudualnt RDNS record for QWEST which appears to maybe be a provider for Go Daddy. It is taking over 300 ms to get through that. Everythign else is down in the 50 ms range for me until I hit that one.

Could be a server issue also I suppose I have gotte na couple of PHP errors which is not a good sign. Both after posting when the system is mailing notification of responses I would guess as they were mail related.

If I can do anyhting to help ever Spike just let me know.

Thanx guys. Like I said when its after hours I cant tell due to being on a modem at home. The server looks like its being nailed, but not by traffic. Ill check into it a bit more.

Sorry guys -- it was our "friends" over at google. Once I firewalled googlebot, the utilization went down to practically zero.

I know several people who would love to have the googlebot visit them.

It can be a real hog on resources but I wouldn't think it should bring it to its knees. Sounds like it got in a loop which it will typically recognize. How many GB total is the entire site? Just curious.

1.8 GB for RB. We also host patti's photography stuff on the same server, though its very low bandwidth. However, she has 10,000 images that google was trying to index. *sigh* Looking over the statistics Google has accounted for 25% of our bandwidth usage in the last week or so. Grrrr..

Googlebot seems to be visiting us quite frequently these days; several times every week. I've had to temporarily firewall it until I can come up with a good solution for keeping it off of my gallery. I've got a robots.txt there that it ignored. I've contacted Google, just waiting for them to respond. They can allegedly throttle it back a bit so it indexes the sites in pieces instead of as one all out blast.

What do you have in robots.txt?

User-agent: googlebot
Disallow: /directoryname/

The above should do it. Always has for me in the past anyway.
