Subie Pictures from friend's RV-7A

Post by svanarts »

A friend is going to be hanging his Eggenfelner Subaru engine next week. Here's a pic of it, also have a picture of the fuel pump, and his battery installation. Thought it might help someone. Here ya go:

Yes, he's going for all electronic instruments and wants it light IFR capable. One is a primary battery and the other is a backup. They are in that position for W&B reasons I believe. Kevin is very detail oriented. It's going to be a nice airplane.

The Egg engine is heavy. I am sure they are there for W&B and for ignition.

Looks great!

That's right, that's what the other battery is for. Backup for engine ignition. Thanks CJ.

Yeah, that's the first thing I thought!! Better just walk away from this thread...I'm in Florida for my Grandfather's memorial service this week (he had alzhiemers, and is in a MUCH better place now, thanks), and I have had thoughts of visiting Egg while I'm down here. I'm not leaning this way again, but I thought it'd be neat to see his place. I'm pretty much leaning either -340 or -360, possibly with FADEC...

I gotta' tell ya'.... as interesting as that engine installation looks, and as complete as it is, I'm not the least be tempted to move to an automotive engine of any kind. I've looked that motor over and can't believe all the extra junk you've got to lug along just to make it work. Big heavy steel plate, coolant, two batteries. It may only be slightly heavier but... it's heavier. At my hangar "We like Lyc!"

(That's pronounced "like" for all you subie enthusiasts out there)
