Tailwheel Subaru

Post by svanarts »

Okay, now I'm busted. Chad has already blown my cover over on an alternative engine forum; took like what, two seconds? :) Oh yeah, that pesky email notification thingy.

Chad,
I've seen lots of photos of RV-6A, 7A, and 9A, Egg installs. What about us tailwheel guys? Are there any tailwheel Subaru installs? What's involved? I thought I read somewhere about having to send them your engine mount so they can modify it if you're building a tailwheel RV. True? :?

Yep! Didn't take long! I gotta find better things to do with my time!

The majority of Egg installs are A models. There are a BUNCH of taildraggers however. I had this exact same question for Jan when I first found out about the engine in 2005. At that time, he was building mounts 70% of the time for A's and 30% TW. Probably about the same now, but there are a lot more engines out there in two years.

Remember the white/red/yellow one I posted last fall that visited my airport?

Robert Paisley is a TW out in CA. He's removed the four cylinder STi, and put in the 6.

There's not much involved at all. Not anymore than an A model. You do send your mount to Eggenfellner so they can modify it. They want you do get the non-powdercoated one from Van's and they'll PC it after it's modified.

What else ya got for me?
