Here's another approach to rotary power:

Great Swiss engineering, but bring lots of money! :o

Yeah, it's sweet, and interestingly, as far as I know, they use no Mazda parts. The rotors and housings are "clean sheet" components. Reflects a commitment to the technology that's good to see. Let's see... if I start saving now, when I'm ready for an engine in about 2 years, I'll need to put aside how much per week? :?

Mistral praise

Post by cjensen »

I've done a lot of reading on these Mistral rotary's lately. I am very impressed! I think the price is a little steep, but by the time I'm ready for an engine...we'll see. I like the fact that it is, more or less, a clean sheet design with a Mazda heritage.

This one, from what I can tell in the reading, is designed as an aircraft engine, not a pulled auto engine converted for aircraft use.

I have owned three RX-7's, and had to rebuild one engine after 130,000 miles when the apex seals went bad-probably from my right foot always revving that thing to 8000! What a great engine though!

Anyway, it has my attention. Of course, the more I learn about conversions, any of them, the more I am being influenced to think about using one. I suppose I have plenty of time to decide.

Looks interesting ... doesn't seem like the web site has been updated recently. The 200+ hp version weighs about the same as an angle valve IO-360 with more power...
Maybe I'll try and look for them at OSH?

I wonder if they will be at Osh. I don't remember if they were at SNF this year. Anyone else? I do know there were doing R&D with Embry Riddle. And while you are at Osh make sure you talk to Innodyne. They are some pretty slick people.

They should be right next door to Van's at OSH. Last year they were across the road from Van's. They're movin' in closer. I'll be lookin' at 'em too!
