GPS Fritz

Post by Tom Harp »

Hi Folks: Anybody out there ever have their GPS Screen act up?
Today mine suddenly looked like it was trying to show everything at once.
Unclear images of several pages at the same time. I carried the thing to work today to solder a power cord, and all was well till I tried it in the car on the way home....I carried it out in a plastic bag--static maybe?
Thoughts anyone?
Thanks
Tom

What model of GPS do you have?

Static can cause problems with LCD screens. I have a Rocky Mountain MicroMonitor and when I even rub the screen with my hand I can make all the LCD segments appear.

It's a Garmin 195. Does yours get back to normal eventually, or do you dishcarge it somehow? For a while after the ride home, I thought it had healed itself, but later this evening it did it again.

Actually it only happens briefly when I move my hand over the display or pull it out of a plastic bag. If it's just happening just sitting there then you may have a problem somewhere on your circuit board. Does it happen only when it's plugged in or will it happen on battery too?

Fuzzy GPS

After I posted last I got lucky, I guess. I have no real idea what happened to cause the problem in the first place, but in the course of fumbling around with the thing ,I removed the battery pack, and the problem went away. It was there on battery, or other power source B/4.
Maybe it was that overpumped Mars Rover.
