Avioncs Coolding Fans

Post by dahugo »

I've been looking for ways to cool my Dynon FlightDEK 180, Garmin 430W, and assorted expensive gizmos.

Lone Star AViation Copr makes a huge colling fan for about $170 (the Cyclone-21) with 3 outputs.

That seems kinda steep to me. I was thinking of installing 2 14V computer-type cooling fans in the Glare Shield having them suck air from the cockpit and blow into the windshield. This would serve two purposes--keep relatively cool air flowing over the avionics and act as a defroster during winter months.

However, I am new to this stuff--what have YOU guys done for avionics cooling?

Thanks,

There are many varied sizes of computer cooling fans available, and I would imagine this is the way to go

Hugo-

The avionics coolers I have seen use a "blast tube" method - one big fan and multiple hoses that come off of it directed to each avionics device. It shouldn't be too hard to make something homegrown with PC fans. I don't know how effective the defroster fans would be at reducing the temp between the panel and the subpanel as a whole...my guess is not much.
