Radio display trouble-Bendix King

Post by gsimatos »

I have the Bendix King 97 radio. Very similar to the Icom 200. When installed I only get one half background lighting up on the display. If I pull the radio and have my avionics person set it up on the bench I get full brightness. I have checked the pins responsible for the display and have the right power and ground at the pins. Any ideas??? Thanks Gary

I will start by saying I have absolutely no idea, but if I had to guess I would say there is a pin for auto-dimming that either has no voltage or the wrong voltage when installed in your panel. That, or maybe a photo cell that isn't getting any light when in your panel and therefore the radio thinks it is in complete darkness and auto dimming the display.

I was thinking photo cell too.

The radio thinks it is dark out!

Before you do anything else, put a flashlight on the photo eye and see if it brightens up.
